Didn't I post that Factbook link somewhere before? Eh.
Q: Where is the US Embassy or Consulate in ___ located? A: http://usembassy.state.gov/ (I used to have a better site, but can't remember it)
Q: What is some of the military equipment used by ___? A: http://www.fas.org/man/index.html (note: useful for research papers an such but be advised not 100% accurate in most cases of technical details, also the ROW/OPFOR category refers to non-US forces)
Q: What is the Intelligence and/or Security Agency of ___? A: http://www.fas.org/irp/world/index.html (not every agency has a link, but might have a website that FAS just doesn't have included yet)

Not really a list, but a very useful resource nonetheless:

Yeah, I like it, but it's a bit too general for the kind of resource I'm thinking of.
Might stick it in later |

| Reasonable site LoT, but riddled with popups. I'll wait a bit before adding it to the list, just in case there's a less popuppy one out there. |

I think it's useful. It would be quicker than trawling throught the google searches. People often have arguments about things which are knowable. Speaking for myself, I would like to have a resource where these things can be found immediately.
Anyway Veg, why rain on me? If you don't want to submit a list, that's fine. Why sound so critical? |

I just knew someone would have too be a smartass and post that. It's not a list is it. For example it doesn't immediatelt tell you who was president of Paraguay in 1971 does it?

I was wondering about the idea of factual knowledge and how it has become devalued by the internet and more specifically the web.
For example, if I want to know who wrote a book, I go to amazon. If I want to know who was in a film. etc I got to IMDB.
So I thought it would be nice to have a list of fdefinitve lists all accesible from one forum, which would just let us know everything.
Please post your links here, along with the kind of questions they answer. Or post some titles you would like definiteve lists for Useful ones might be: What is the capital of.... Who sang..... What song was number one on ../../....
I'll start with a few
Q1)Who wrote..... Q2)Who starred in.... / Whatfilms has.... been in Q3)Who was King/President/Prime minister of .... in.... Q4)What is the capital of.... Q5)Who's alive and who's dead? Q6)Where is so-and-so buried? Q7)The authoritative source for flags of the world:
A1)http://www.amazon.com A2)http://www.imdb.com A3)http://www.info-regenten.de/regent/regent-e/ A4)http://geography.about.com/library/misc/blnationalcapitals.htm A5)http://www.wa-wd.com/ A6)http://www.findagrave.com/ A7)http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/
