Congrats, Cordelia. Picking France paid off after all, even if they didn't make it past the quarter finals
Thanks for running this, DP and congrats to Greece for taking it all |

As I said, Jimmy's invasion was a crucial point of the match...
This hat will be from now on the most important hat in Greek football history...
Some people in our tv shows have proposed to offer Jimmy (like Otto) to become a Greek citizen...
Ta ta
Ps. What exactly is that hat, anyway? |

I'll need one of those too...
WE DID IT!!!
WE'RE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!!
Crucial moment of the match:
Around the 85th minute, Greece is ahead one-nil and suddenly a guy with a weird hat and a flag enters the field. He's got a Barcelona flag that he tosses to traitor Figo (who left Barca for Real a few years earlier) and continues his run into the net of Nikopolidis. He didn't leave the field until at least two minutes had passed and Portugal's players had lost any concentration they had to score and get it even.
Thank you tons, mr. Jimmy Jump!!
Lalalalala lalalala lalalalaaaaaa!!

Hmmm, wonder who that was?
I thought Portugal played well against Holland, tactically better than England and defeated a gritty defensive Spain (and don't forget the importance of the Spanish game')
Would you say that Portugal were any less deserving than England, Sweden, France, Denmark or Holland to go through.
(BTW - I've returned your message.) |

Oh come on! The Sardines are still mediocre at best. They have crawled through on the back of opponents laclustre efforts and still have not pulled a good game together, heck, the only time a team stepped up a gear against them was the first Greek outing, and look what happened there!
Greece should win the final hands down. They play better as a combined team and their fitness is superior. The only way I can see the Sardines winning is if the ref sides with them again
Overall, most teams have underperformed in this compo, but the Greeks stayed steady and to their game play. I hope they win as they deserve it more than the Sardines.
Pah! |

Well, if I knew that it was going to be a Portugal/Greece final I wouldn't have bothered watching this tournament . Seriously though, I think both teams deserve to be there(possible exception of Czech). Portugal have got better throughout the tournament, Ronaldo and Maniche have been great to watch, and Figo looked more his old self the other night. With home advantage you expect Portugal to lift the cup on Sunday. However Greece have really pulled together as a team, Otto Rehblahblah, has got the team working really hard as a unit, and with no pressure on them they could suprise us all. (It looked a bit of a jammy goal last night, though, I thought it came off his shoulder, but hey they all count). I do hope Greece win to tell you the truth, along with the Centenary of the Olympics,it will be a great summer for them. Quite fitting really. Just wish I'd put some money on them. |

What's going on? Being out of this championship is the new staying in.
I think the Czechs deserve to win this, to be honest, as most of the displays in these Quarter Finals have been pretty much lacklustre. Anyway that's who I'm backing, which means that Greece will be in the final.
I never knew that the Dutch had a worse record than us in penalty shoot outs. |

The top five teams, by average points given to them, are
Italy (28.81 points)
France (22.72 points)
England (16.55 points)
Spain (12.27 points)
Germany (4.91 points)
All five are now eliminated |

Yes they do report them, and yes, Turks prolly top anyone in that regard. But turks weren't around, and I am prolly carrying over my beef with Brit tourists. (What can I say, we only seem to attract the sort that considers an arrest for disorderly behaviour, indecent exposure or bar brawl a perfect conclusion to a night out. )Sorry to have upset you .
Well, today I'm only too glad to admit I'm wrong. About that, and about our team of course . I can get so used to being proven wrong this way .

Hmm.. I dunno whether I'd like danes or czechs for the next round. The latter are both more fearsome and more likeable. To me anyhow.

That is narrow minded and so very biased. Do you really think England is the only country with drunken hooligans? If you do then you need to get out into the real world.
Italian hooligans planning trouble at Euro 2004
German and Dutch hooligans
Were the above reported as widely in the media as the English incidents? Of course not. England has this hooliganism attached to them, whether they actually do it or not, and it will be with them forever because of people like you who believe the twisted press.
Heck, Turkey are probably the worse football supporters, but no, England gets worse press and punishment.
Sorry Termital but statements like that really really annoy me. |

The England/Sardine game really annoyed me.
Point 1: Why did the whole team give up when Rooney went off? Yes, he is a great player but there was still depth in the team to push forward and make chances.
Point 2: What's with the bloody long ball? Time and time again England play the 'Hoof up the middle' approach to smaller strikers. It don't work and never will, unless of course Rooney is playing.
Point 3: Having both Chuckle brothers on the pitch at the same time is disasterous. Why take Joe Cole, a chap who can break defenses apart, and not play him? Instead Sven puts Chuckle II on and the game goes backwards.
Point 4: It don't matter if the penalty spot is made of cork and the surrounding mud is like quicksand, taking a penalty is all in favour of the kicker. It should be a basic pre-school skill getting the ball on target with a mighty hoof, not trying to be a fanny and placing it. Head down, huge kick, directed to goal, in the back of the net. Simple.
Point 5: Airbound defense, England are good, but with the crosses they don't man mark well, hence the first Sardine goal. England did not seem to communicate well this time and it proved decisive.
Point 6: Cheat, just like opponents. England need to cheat more, especially outside and inside the box, other teams get the call from doing it so why shouldn't England. The truth gets you nowhere in this game.
Come on Holland (And Denmark) |

Sports pundits here think Rooney shows great promise.
As for England, well, nobody's sorry to see drunk hooligans go. For the actual team, that it serves them right for making regular time so sucky, and that the english team final standing was to be expected given team's history.
Myself, I cheered for Portugal .
Now, I'll just keep my fingers crossed that tomorrow's game is this long as well . Rest assured that you'll see no *-*-3 stupidity from this team (what was Rehhagel thinking before the russia game?), unless they're already losing badly. We have absolutely no way to deal with the french team on a man-to-man basis, so we'll just have to keep tight control of space on our side of the field and hope to get a lucky counterattack once they're worn down. Odds of course are that it'll be a fun end of the road. And by that I mean fun for us - expect to see the stretcher people a lot . |
