I don't think I could even be a moderator because while not computer illiterate... Anyhow I have not been here long enough and there are no places open anyhow.

| Do any of HyToFry's Forums require moderation? |
I would suggest that the discussion of the GL puzzles requires some modding, as lately a new puzzle results in about 20 new threads each proposing a solution (Zarriar's guide for posting was a good idea, but it does not work in practice). If a mod can put all these together in one post, that would be an improvement.
And NO, I am not volunteering to be that mod. The only forum I would even consider modding is VG, if Courk ever gets tired of that job. |

I'd say the Archives forum does need a moderator, unless they all (or just the Minotaur, even) have equal access to it...
Otherwise, how do we get stuff out of the Archives after the cleaning? |

| I know this is going to sound incredibly stupid, but do you need a mod for the Archives? Noone ever posts there, everything put in there has already been checked over by mods, and the forum is temporary, but.... I forgot my argument. Damn. This is a lot more stupid than I had planned. |

I understand HyToFry has other obligations, I'll happily appoint new moderators to Forums as needed. Do any of HyToFry's Forums require moderation?
I guess I need to implement some system for handling election of moderators. Presumably the Puzzle voting system could be co-opted.
In the meantime, if there's consensus that changing moderators is a priority, please post it here. |

Who the heck is this 'Quailman' person y'all keep talking about??
Seriously though, much as I hate to say this, HyToFry himself made a post explaining that he wouldn't be visiting the GL as much, on account of college. Hy's currently in charge of 5 forums...admittedly, 4 are low traffic, but that's still a lot to handle even for someone with extra time to spare--which Hy doesn't have. I'm not saying he should withdraw entirely from moderarting, just that some of that load should be passed around.
And no, I'm not suggesting I should be someone to accept that load. I wouldn't take it if it was offered to me. Being a moderator isn't just some neat badge you get to wear, there's actual work and responsibilty involved. Anyone that thinks otherwise hasn't really been paying attention.

That was posted on March 3, and I had not posted since leaving the office February 27 - a whopping 4 days. I'm trying to make up for that today. I can't believe that anyone would ever get the impression that I don't post on the GL anymore. It might be true that I don't read every thread, particulary in the games forum. I try to at least look at each thread in OT since I moderate it, but I don't reply to very many there. |

Now I see JD's plan. If he can get Hy replaced he'll try to get the other Moderators replaced too. Then he'll get the replacements replaced until he's the only one left.

| Actually, two of those guys you speak of don't post on GL anymore. Well actually I think I saw Quailman post two weeks ago, but as far as I'm concerned HyToFry got in a car accident or something... Maybe Minotaur should hand over some of HyToFry's forum to more active GLers that he can trust, like Chuck. |

I can't believe you guys!
These four guys (plus one Super-Minotaur) are dedicating substantial time and effort into maintaining a wonderful place on the internet, and you aren't happy with that?
The moderator's forum is a place for the moderators to discuss important business. It's important for them to have somewhere that they can plan and share experience without the threat of ridicule.
If you want to be a moderator, offer your name the next time a forum is created. Moderators are a by-product of the forums, not the other way around.
Thank you Mith, Quail, Hy, Courk, and Minotaur. I, and I sure many others, appreciate it. |

The last two posts in the MOD forum involve the 'broken' OT forum. Does anyone else have any sugestions for fixing it? I tried posting to the most recent thread that showed up (08/15/00) and it apparently updated and now the one prior to it shows as the most recent. (To see these you must set your preferences to show all topics).
Moderators do not have the same rights as Administrators or Minotaur would. I am open to suggestions. |

I think it is (or could be)a 'big deal'. The thing that makes this site great, is nothing that Kevin does, rather what he doesn't do. He doesn't moderate, he doesn't control, he simply provides a great place to discuss puzzles, and things relating.
Now suddenly we have a hidden "private forum for the moderators to discuss forum moderation and other internal Grey Labyrinth projects." What, do we assume that these moderators know better what projects or things need to be done? I didn't realize that the rest of us couldn't be involved at this level. I should have paid my dues.
Now I have talked with Quail, and he assured me that any large projects would be discussed outside the forum, but I still think the hidden forum is a bad idea. As soon as we have lost the openess of this site, I am afraid people will lose interest.
I am not a naysayer, I think overall things are still fine around here, but I honestly don't like the way things are headed... I don't know, maybe it is just me...

i don't see what the big deal is, i haven't even checked the forum lately to be honest. if i need something from another mod, i email them, or if i need something from kev, i email him. for the gloc project, well, it hasn't started yet, i'm really the only one doing much on it as far as i know, and i'm just cleaning out vsp. you will all be informed when it starts. it would be nice to have someone to help me i think, but kev's version of the ubb only supports one mod per forum, and if there was more we would probably just get confused and such at this stage. as for modding the mod forum, i am going to ask kev for that position temporarily to use as a place where i can move puzzles and such to keep track of them, and otherwise, whether he lets me do that or not, i don't see the need for a mod there. let's see, anything else? no, it's late, i'm tired, i'm going to bed |

You left most of us out by saying this. Most of us appear to be geniuses but only Paladin is truly a genius. So you might want to rethink your description.
Also, hehe He said Butt hehe
Let them have there own forum. Who cares. I'm sure if anything interesting is said they will be more than happy to share it with us. Especially if it involves GL projects.

I have a question. I don't necesarrily want to be a moderator (my spelling kept me out of the running), but I DO want to be involved in 'labyrinthinan' projects. I believe I was one of the first people to ask for a breakout in topics so that the puzzle forum didn't get overloaded, and also one of the first to suggest that the GLers themselves be involved with helping out in coming up with the GL puzzle that has so far been just Kevins responsibility (I was also kept out of the running for moderator because of my run-on scentances...).
Anyway, I suggest that this 'private' forum be opened to members in long standing who have a desire to help out in GL projects and have proven themselves to be of genius caliber (and everybody knows that geniuses can't spell).
Rebuttals? |

You could of course let non-moderators be allowed to read, but just not post. Its this whole dome of secrecy thing
You see, we here are all puzzlers. We like to find out why things work and what numbers follow what in sequences and so on. So the fact that there are hidden conversations - drives us on to find out what they are.
Or more bluntly
We are all incredibly nosy and arrogant.
