That assessment is correct.
Logain, the point is we don't currently have such a feature, and I try to implement features only if they're really needed, and avoid ones that are nice to have. Because of the way modifications to phpBB are made, every change makes it more difficult to keep the site up-to-date. |

| If a change is made to spoiler text, I think all current instances of it should remain in invisible text |

Antrax, like I mentioned before. Anyone can use text or symbols to point out "hey, swipe here" "there's invisible text I want you to read" But why use symbols or codes to point out "invisible text" when we have great tools such as highlighted hidden text.
Like I said, the major difference is that invisible text is meant to be just that "invisible". You may or may not want everyone to notice it right away. Very good for puzzles or making clever remarks. Spoiler text is good for putting answers you want hidden but stands out so you obviously know something's there without reading into the post as much.
If I post the answer to a puzzle or the ending of a movie, I'd like to use spoiler text. If I want to make a joke or create a puzzle, I would use invisible text. |

I don't see a problem with the solution proposed in post #2. So, unless there's wide support for this, I don't see a reason to implement something new for it.
Logain, do you have a specific need in mind? |

Exactly why I think there should be two different results when using the tags. Spoiler text would be obvious hidden text. Invis text would be completely hidden until swiped. They both serve their own purposes in a forum...especially a puzzle board like this. |

Very easy. When editing, the board looks at the message, and does a sort of reverse-engineering to recreate the formatting tags. So, it goes with the first one that fits the effect it sees. So, if their (inv and spoiler) effects are different, no replacement will be made.
[edit]
To Nsof: they're just aliases of each other. There's no difference. |

What is the difference between invisible text and spoiler text? I mean, how should the two be different in the way users see them (or rather not) in the UI?
if i put text in [inv] tags [/inv] how would it look different than text in [spoiler] tags [/spoiler] and how should both behave? |

I don't remember that.
I've noticed that if I use [inv] in a post and later edit it, the [inv] tags have changed to [spoiler] tags. If a change is made to differentiate these, the board would have to stop replacing [inv] with [spoiler]. I don't know how easy or hard that will be. |

| Ah I see what you're saying, but you can do anything to say or try to point out you invised text. Hey, swipe here...inviz text.. *invisible text*, but most other boards use some type of reverse or colored highlighting that I've gotten use to and like. And the way we temporarily had it here where spoiler text on white was grey and on gray posts was white looked kinda neat. |

| You can use the [[inv] and closing [/inv]] tags. That should work pretty well. |

This was something discussed before the move to the new board and I think would be valuable to have here.
Currently, Spoiler Text is Invisible Text, and I think it would be nice to have true spoiler text so that you can hide something but let someone know very obviously that there is hidden text to view. I think that inv and spoiler both serve their own separate purposes in games, puzzles and off topic situations.
Previously we had tried using "reverse highlighting" as spoiler text (ie. grey on white posts, white on grey posts that Hy implemeted) which I think the overall consensus was it looked nice, but unfortunately for some non IE users it didn't work. I was wondering if with the new board format this would work better or some standard highlight color could be used. |
