| Why don't you try your approach to individual 3x3 grids? There's really no indication or reason that they should be grouped by two. (good work, though) |

I'm new here, but was looking at this and thought I'd throw something out here...
Going with groza528's theory, we put them in 3x3 grids:
code:
TIC PEN REB GER THR GIL MIC FOU SOU TOU TAC SAC ELY ALD EES LES ROC RHC THP CHT TOE OLA ELL INE ONS PIE HIP LUB ARK ONE
Now remove letters that are similar between each group of two:
code:
TIC PEN R B G R THR GIL MIC FOU S T T S E Y A D E L O H T P C T TOE OLA ELL INE ONS PIE HIP LUB ARK ONE
C U C I L
Unscramble for: Lucci ????
Note: the only problem is on the "L" - the t and p don't match to remove giving a better looking "L"

if it is said that <Things that change are far more deserving of your attention>
the list can be reduced to THREE SONS 3 FOUR AITCH 4 TOUCHT ONE 1
which lets me speculate about PI, 4-3=1 etc

I followed groza's example putting the words in 3x3 grids and got this.
C-H-U-?-C-H-I-L-L-/
Assuming the fourth one is an R, i believe it is referring to Winston Churchill. That's my puny attempt at an answer anyway.

| Of course it's "fourhclub" for the record. Fits much better with microchip that way. |

Insight: Upon rearranging into a 3x3 grid, I looked at only the letters that changed from one to the next. Between tic-tac-toe and Pensacola it makes a C, haven't tried any more yet.
code:
TIC PEN TAC SAC TOE OLA

I noticed a connection with the 3x3 thing (children's game and telephone) and soon realized (and Lepton confirmed) that all the answers were 9 letters. A few from the googling didn't fit, but this is the list with a few changes I made so they all fit into 9 letters. I think putting them into 3x3 grids is the next step.
code:
TICTACTOE PENSACOLA REBELYELL GERALDINE THREESONS GILLESPIE MICROCHIP FOURAITCH SOUTHPARK TOUCHTONE

RAnDom THouGHts
Tic Tac Toe aka Naughts and Crosses
Pensacola claimed by five nations : thus five flags
Les yeux sans visage is French for "Eyes Without a Face"
My three sons were originally Mike, Robbie, and Chip Then Mike got married and left; Family adopts Ernie; Leving Robbie, Chip, and Ernie
Dizzy Gillespie wasn't the first trumpeter for Cab Calloway He replaced ??? Born as Jorn Birks Gillespie
The integrated circuit replaced vacuum tubes
4-H began as the "Boys & Girls Club Work"
The school teacher had a nose job; substitute was Ms. Ellen
Touch Tone Telephones replaced Rotary Dial Telephones
MOre RAnDoM THouGHts
Do we sort the replacements by the year of the year of introduction?

What Steve Douglas has, according to the title There are hundreds to choose from but the most likely answer I've found so far is Three Sons. I wouldn't bet on it though. Also, there seems to be a 3-letter thing going on giving T, A, L, R, ?, I, I, H, 1, ? but I have no idea what to do with them and how they tie into "change". |

It appears from the text that we are trying to find things that change. "There’s a marked difference between the two" & "Things that change are far more deserving of your attention than things that stay the same". Google revealed the following: Children's game played on a 3x3 grid Tic-Tac-Toe "The City of Five Flags" Pensacola, Florida Album featuring "Eyes Without a Face" Rebel Yell Walter's history-making running mate Geraldine Ferraro What Steve Douglas has, according to the title ??? "Cheeky" jazz trumpeter for Cab Calloway's band Dizzy Gillespie Jack Kilby's brainchild Integrated Circuit Their pledge ends, "For my club, my community, my country, and my world" 4-H Home of Tom's Rhinoplasty South Park (Episode 111) Type of phone with numbered buttons arranged in a 3x3 square ???
