| Yoko Ono was a calculated manipulative leech. If she's gonna be an unsung hero, then so should Nicolae Ceausescu! |

Yoko Ono - fun name to say, but also John Lennon once described his wife Yoko Ono as "the world's most famous unknown artist: everybody knows her name, but nobody knows what she does." |

Helen Taussig developed a surgical method of treating "blue baby syndrome," saving the lives of many infants. She was also instrumental in preventing thalidomide from being approved for use in the USA, preventing the tragic birth defects seen in European babies born to pregnant women who had used the drug. |

Joseph Goldberger did some break through work on pellagra in the US prison system in the early 1900s. He may have experimented on prisoners (who were released for their participation in his study) but he did introduce the idea of deficiency in the diet as a cause for disease, which was a brand spanking new idea back then.
Raise your glass to Goldberger for enriched bread and sugar and vitamin supplements.
Side note: Pellagra may be partly responsible for the term "red neck" in the southern US. Gives you a nasty neck rash. |

Ok here's another one...
mps1453 - Why? He's funny and charming and everybody loves it when he posts. Nobody can resist the wit that he has, or the fact that he's only been here for 2 months. He definately deserves to be awarded with a McDonald's M&M McFlurry, as the are the best - like he is |

I knew his name rang a bell.
(I did Librarianship at college, although I don't work in that field now.)
Great idea for a thread though. |

Find somebody who deserves recognition for something but is relatively unknown?
I studied Computer Science, but I never heard of this guy. I thought I'd share what I found but didn't know where to post it, so I started this thread.
Paul Otlet forefather of the internet. |
