| Dust 514 was finally publicly released yesterday. It's a free to play MMO FPS that's tied into the Eve Online space-based MMO. Available for PC and PS3. It's pretty good for a free to play game, and unique that it's tied directly, in-game, with another MMO. Surely there are some Eve Online players here who've heard of this thing? |

| Well, I'm not one to try try and "catch them all," but I will catch all I encounter. When I was a kid I originally caught all 151, and then when Generation 2 came out I caught all 252. Ever since generation 3 came out though, there's just too many to catch and it's too time consuming. |

depends on how many you want to catch. FYI, I caught a grand total of 47 pokemon in the first six games. Cause, yeah i'm that badass. |

Been playing a lot a lot of Touhou lately. I've got the early (PC-98) games on my laptop and all of the Windows danmaku games on my desktop (though I can't get EoSD to play on my desktop - I may have to reget it just for the sake of completeness, as I never play it)
Anybody else here play Danmaku games? |

I've recently been playing Mark of the Ninja, an indie stealth sidescroller. You play as a ninja (spoiler alert!)
So there's one mechanic of this game that I find particularly awesome, and that is the "fear" mechanic. It really brings the game a bit more realism, because it dares to say that ninjas aren't *just* stealthy killers, they are stealthy killers and that's terrifying. What this means for gameplay is that if a guard witnesses another guard getting killed in a particularly frightening way (such as getting thrown off a balcony and landing directly in front of them) they freak out and start shaking and shooting wildly, and completely forget to call for backup. Nothing like psychological trauma to spice up a game.
Of course you don't have to play this way. Some of the optional objectives are related to the terror mechanic, others to general toughness, and still others to stealth. As with any stealth game, you have the option to avoid killing, and there are even *two* achievements and a costume upgrade associated with doing so, not to mention the additional challenge. Worth a play if you enjoy stealth games. |

I've been replaying DayZ. The crazy survival zombie Mod for Bohemia's Arma II.
Interestingly the biggest threat in the post apocalyptic zombie world is in fact not the zombies, rather it's the other survivors who want your can of beans and don't mind putting an axe or a bullet in your head to take it.
[some] Guns and ammo are rare, Zombies can both run, climb and knock you out. They will actively pursue noise, like gunshots, noisy footsteps.
You need to eat and drink daily. i.e. Canned foods, soda, or hunt wildlife and cook meat. Also need to keep warm when wet or when night.
I am currently hiding on a mountain with an infection and some moderate bloodloss. Bloodloss makes it harder to see and do things, and the infection makes me cough alerting zombies and gradually drags my health down. Eventually I will die and lose my hard earned M40A3 Camo rifle, which I obtained from a zombie infested military barracks. Crazy. |

As a rightie, that's an issue I never really considered. I love WASD.
The Bridge may not be right for you either then; it uses both the arrow keys and WASD, but for different applications. WASD is for movement, arrow keys are for rotating gravity. |

I'm left-handed and can WASD just fine. You just need to train yourself to do it.
Granted, I hate doing WASD, but I can do it. |

I have played a flash game that had the same music as that Bridge trailer. It's going to drive me crazy now. I thought it was Closure at first (since it's a similiar puzzle/adventure game), but that's not it. Grrrrrr....
And I am grabbing AntiChamber while it's on sale. |

| Probably, though the Ps4 seems to be aimed at the creativity model similar to a lot of Apple technology and more for indie gamers/developers. I have had the advantage of brothers buying the opposite consoles. e.g . I own pc, ps1, ps2, ps3. My brother owns pc, xbox, xbox360, and Wii console. So we simply play games to death and then trade for 6 months of the year. |

Bethesda have sent mixed messages about how they both can and cannot make things work on the Ps3 system and are working with Sony Japan. They actively deny selling out to Microsoft, but pretty much everyone knows that they did. I knew they were planning to bring Dragonborn out eventually, though last I checked it was set to be the only DL for the PS3
Regarding that, Microsoft doesn't annoy me so much, they made a proposal to Bethesda, which Bethesda accepted based on the existing xbox, pc, ps3 market at the time. Simply put, Bethesda could have said no, but they didn't. And in the business sense, they did what they thought was best. Sucks for Ps3, but keeps Bethesda in business unlike some other companies (THQ) |

I thought I read that those were released to Ps3 last month.
Still, I feel for you. I've got a few friends who have given me their lengthy complaints. Should you not be upset with Microsoft for binding Bethesda like they did? |

Just picked up a couple of indie puzzle games on Steam: "The Bridge" and "AntiChamber"
Both of them involve puzzle-solving in a non-Euclidean space, though they go about it differently.
AntiChamber is a 3-D maze that challenges your very definition of the term. Some of the geometric puzzles involve paths that loop back on themselves unexpectedly or connect in impossible ways, or even that lead to different places depending on your perspective. Later puzzles allow you to manipulate blocks in a Minecraft-esque fashion and use them to build bridges and block lasers.
The Bridge is a 2-D platformer in artful Escherspace environments. Paths cross in front of each other in very illusive ways and gravity can change to match them, or may even be different for various puzzle elements.
Both are currently on sale on Steam but I think the sale is ending soon. |

I must admit that I did laugh all the way through Batman 2, which had enough jokes in the "cut scenes" to survive the second (or third) visits that the game needs. I agree that the hub of Gotham is a bit unwieldy: then again, just wait until you have the whole of Middle Earth to go at. (There's a map navigation system for LotR, so it doesn't feel quite as overwhelming as it might at first appear, but it's not very intuitive.) |

Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes here. I usually stay a game behind on the Lego games. Mostly becuase I believe they are well worth $20, but not much more than that.
This one's smaller than previous Lego games. Though some levels are longer. It's got an original story to it, which is pretty good. For the series as a whole, having something that they can get original material out of is golden, since they won't run out of movies for this one. While I do like the stuff in Gotham City itself, I think Lego Harry Potter (both 1-4 and 5-7) did that hub system much, much better.
Yea, I'd call this a step down from Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7, but it's still a fun Lego game. Lego Star Wars III is still my favorite. |

Lego Lord of the Rings
Here we go again. Travellers' Tales haven't quite started scraping the bottom of the barrel yet; every game in this endless franchise introduces some new twists to a well-established formula even though the basic principles of smashing everything in sight and figuring out how to combine character abilities to reach hidden objects has remained the same since the original Star Wars games.
This time around they have also opted to use voices. Whilst this was fine in the Batman 2 game as it was an original script that was able to blend the visual slapstick with additional one-liners, here they have tried to use lines from the Jackson movies but overall this has a lesser effect as the overt comedy feels a bit of a bad fit with the more serious tone of the dialogue. Having said that, there are times when it just works like a charm.
So no, it's not the best in the series (upon reflection I think that may be the first of the Harry Potter games), but even an average Lego game is still terrific. |

New best: 1:03:21
First the good: Got hammer kill on bowser, FINALLY. Seriously saves like 30 seconds by itself. Most levels went smoothly overall. No major screw ups.
Then the bad: Died 3 times in world 5. Seriously, I hate the sky so much.
Got the damn coinship in world 3, forcing me to skip the 2nd hammer and preventing me from skipping the first fort in world 4.
7-1 zip took longer than it should. Got it around try 10 or so.
Missed star kill on the 1st fort in world 6.
Got two hands, but that's just luck. Can't do anything about that.
1:02 possible? Do I dare dream that I could cut 1? |
