| Looks like no one can make it friday afternoon. I am interested in running the format though, I'm gonna start a new thread for doing it via the forum. |

| I actually own this game, and tried to run it once on the GL. It's really hard for the really young. |

So there's this board game called "Times to Remember" that's about guessing when events in the past couple decades occurred. The only made one edition in 1991 that was about 1950-1990, so I figure I could run one for 1960-2010 events.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/211/times-to-remember is the full low-down and some pretty pictures. Here's the rules I'll be using:
Players split into two teams, and each has a set of brackets from 1-7. Each bracket can stretch that many years, so the 1 bracket only fits one year, the 3 can spread three like 1972 to 1974, etc.
Each round I will state an event from the past. Both teams then discuss together what they think the right answer is, and how sure they are. They then must decide on a bracket to use and range of years. If a team is correct, that bracket is then retired for that team. If the year of the event is outside their range chosen, then the bracket is returned to their set.
The object of the game is to be the first team to use all 7 brackets, so the teams have to manage risk on when to try for the 1 or 2 brackets, or if a wider range is necessary because of uncertainty.
If both teams use their final bracket on the same turn, all 7 brackets are returned and a new question is played. Play continues as it did at the start of the game, but now the first team to get an answer correct without their opponents getting it right will win instantly.
I was thinking I could run this friday afternoon/evening. I'm busy saturday and sunday is the day I traditionally crap my pants about having to get my trivia writing down. As few as 2 can play, and any number above since it's just teams, and it can be easy for people to drop in and out if need be. How bout starting at 5pm PST? If earlier's generally better I can do that too. 4 days should be enough for me to write up a bunch of questions.
It'd be glcentral again, though I suppose each team would make their own team chat too. Anyone wanna RSVP? |

it's 7 rounds and i try my best to keep score with people private IMing me their guesses. I think it takes 2-3 hours total, but people can drop in and out if they like.
Edit: should work with meebo, I don't think aim chat rooms are too complicated for it to handle. |

Does GL Central work through Meebo? I tried logging in, and it seemed to work, but no one was there to confirm.
Anyhow, how long would we expect the game to take? I'd love to join, and will do so if I can. |

I actually had put together a set of trivia questions for a bar night last summer that never happened. But not on any football (American) weekends. Possibly the weekend before the superbowl, or sometime after.
I tested these questions on my family. Other than complaints that the geography questions were too hard for Americans (I would not have gotten any, either), they went over well. |

| Anyone game for more GL Live stuff? Doesn't have to be trivia though I'm working less now so that would be the easiest. Maybe starting next weekend. Any proposals for other games that would translate well to chat if using a host? I'd like to run pyramid but seems a bit too tricky |

Thanks, lexprod, for hosting! It was a great time!
Do you have the final scores? I know I was tied for the lead going into the final two rounds, and I managed to goose-egg both of them. |

| Had another successful night of trivia. New faces and old. Gonna hold off on this for a while though, working 6 days a week and having to get the trivia done 12 hours earlier than I have to is wonking with my sleep. |

Hmmm. According to AOL help, AIM chat is no longer available.

Why is AIM Chat closed? Since usage of AIM Chat has declined significantly in recent months, our focus has moved to other products. We're grateful you found this free service useful and hope you'll continue using AIM. |
Can anyone verify that it is working, and whether or not it is possible to connect with just AIM Express. (I use Trillian and I am loathe to install the AIM client.) |

Yes, it was lots of fun. I wish I could have been there for 100%, but I was busy working on high school math competition stuff (which I survived earlier tonight).
I will definitely take part again. |

Trivia night will be done purely through text chat, but I do recommend everyone check out Skype since it's a 100% free audio chatting software (there's the typical "plus" optional version, but the free one has audio and video chat for free so why bother?) It also has text chatting support too, so sometimes I may be "hosting" via skype, but people playing can simply type along.
In the future I may use Skype or a shared Google Doc or Justin.tv or similar webcam service if I have to do any visuals or audio that I'd like to be seen "in real time," still playing around with game ideas to do. But this sunday will be, again, text/chat only. You simply need AIM to play. |

If you have a microphone and speakers, then you just need the free download from http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/home
It is free for skype-to-skype calls. It costs a little something to call a real telephone, but for international calls, it is still cheaper than most anything else. If we all have skype, then we can all get on a conference call for free. |

Hm, how bout for now I try out a pub quiz night this coming sunday. And by night I mean afternoon...depending on your location.
How does this coming Sunday at Noon PST sound? I know that'd be afternoon on the East Coast and evening in Europe. I still don't totally get how the international dateline works so that's either Monday morning or the 31st century in Australia and New Zealand. |
