Interesting game, but not easy with just myself to confer with...didn't help my cause when most of the questions required a total guess (but that's not the fault of the questions!).
I'd be prepared to have another go but give it at least a month as I'm still away from the net for 4 days a week until the end of March... I'll also need a partner next time. |

Good game everyone, Deth and I were very lucky on the questions of this game ( I went to the Gates exhibition, Deth and I both have been playing magic since nearly its inception, and most of the questions at least one of us had a rough idea of because hey were recent)
Thanks for Modding lex! |

And with that MNOWAX and dethwing are victorious! Scurra and Courk were fresh on their heels, as well as jadesmar and DMTsurel. 3iff and jesus_saves put up a good show with 4 brackets left a piece.

The first iPhone (which came before the iPod touch if you remember correctly) went on sale in 2007.
I didn't hear anything from jesus_saves so she gets an automatic miss this round, and MNOWAX and dethwing just fell early of the target, allowing teams SC and jD to close the gap. Since Scurra and Courk only have large brackets to go, while team Md have one less bracket remaining, it could be a very close finish!
Round 7
First Magic: the Gathering cards sold
In response to some player's comments, this round will be due Thursday Night, which should accommodate everyone. |

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace came out in 1999! Almost everyone nailed it again, now most players have used their 1 bracket but plenty still have the 2 to get rid of. MNOWAX and dethwing stay out in front.

As a side note, I may have a ton of questions left over after this game finishes, so I am probably going to run it again in a new thread once this is complete And thanks everyone for being so prompt

Having played this game a lot with my parents, I can safely tell you that the number of windows used is largely irrelevent. You can typically get the 6/7 any time you want. What matters is getting rid of the small ones.
We're not winning because we're 3/3. We're winning because we've used the 1 |

LSD was banned in the US in 1968, and everyone had a good idea what decade this one was at least. Scurra and Courk honed in well with a 3 bracket, everyone else went with a wider and hit it except jesus_saves who landed too early.
Going into the 4th round everyone's on the board, and MNOWAX and dethwing pull by themselves into the lead with a perfect 3/3 record so far.

Team jD just barely missed this one, the answer was 1970, the tragic plane crash of Marshall's football team and some staff and boosters, eventually the plot of the film We Are Marshall.
3F and Md both score this round, bringing Md into the lead with only 5 brackets to go, and leaving jD and SC yet to score.
Time for round 3!

The Gates installation was exhibited in Central Park in 2005! A series of vermilion orange gateways along the foot-path with large orange sheets hanging from each one. Apparently inspired by Japanese temples.
MNOWAX and dethwing nailed it with their 1 bracket, and jesus_saves also reached the right date with the 3 year bracket. Everyone else still has a full set left to get rid of.

Also, I forgot to mention how to submit answers. Preferably say the number of the bracket, and then all the years in the range you selected.

Rules reminder
Players split into teams, and each has a set of brackets from 1-7. Each bracket can stretch that many years, so the 1 bracket only fits one year, the 3 can spread three like 1972 to 1974, etc.
Each round I will state an event from the past. Teams then discuss together what they think the right answer is, and how sure they are (via any means). Research is not allowed, including asking the person sitting next to you, unless they happen to be your team-mate. They then must decide on a bracket to use and range of years. If a team is correct, that bracket is then retired for that team. If the year of the event is outside their range chosen, then the bracket is returned to their set.
The object of the game is to be the first team to use all 7 brackets, so the teams have to manage risk on when to try for the 1 or 2 brackets, or if a wider range is necessary because of uncertainty.
If multiple teams use their final bracket on the same turn, all 7 brackets are returned to the tied teams and a new question is played. Play continues as it did at the start of the game, but now the first team to get an answer correct without their opponents getting it right will win instantly.
The events in question can happen at any time between or including January 1st 1960 to December 31st 2010.
To be clear when you set your brackets it's for the full years, you can't claim "1 year Starting March 4th 1984 ending March 3rd 1985."
I think 4 days is a fair length to make sure both team members can discuss their choice, though I prefer answers in by 2 days to keep things moving. Answers will be accepted via PM from either team member, and once I get all 4 teams in or the deadline hits I'll reveal the answer. If your team has a change of heart before all teams submitted I'll take whichever answer is entered last. |
