Don't make me start shamelessly plugging Willow Groves Art which has many original oil paintings for under $50. and if you say you were referred by me, you get 5% off. |

How about "present that costs $50 or less" so we can wisely know what to get our loved ones. |

This sounds more interesting. I think in all human history, it's the control of fire, easily. |

I spent nearly a week without it just a couple of years ago when the ice storm took out power through most of New Hampshire.
In any case, you can't call "electricity" a technological innovation, you'd have to pick one of the many innovations that use electricity. |

| Yes, I enjoyed Seven Samurai quite a bit. It was a slow movie but I liked how that played into the character development. It also added a realistic element. I don't like when war movies change frames every 5 seconds to show another explosion or person dying. Seven Samurai showed the tedious and rather boring side to conflicts. I can understand someone not liking it because it was a three hour movie that could be made into a 15 minute film. |

We'd tell people they would have had to recently try the drink(s) within the last 6 months to vote. That would encourage people to go outside the box a little. |

Or go with "English isn't the spoken language"
City of God (Cidade de Dues) [Portuguese- Brazil]
Spirited Away[Japanese]
Oldboy [Korean]
Bashu, the Little Stranger [Iranian dialect]
Love's a Bitch (Amores Perros) [Spanish- Mexico]
Seven Samurai [Japanese]
The Lives of Others [German]
Miqad Alley (El Callejon De Los Milagros) [Spanish- Mexico]
Letters From Iwo Jima [Japanese]
Amelie [French]
It appears I recommend 10/21 of the non-English films I have downloaded. |

What might be interesting is movies from 2005 to 2010. I am not sure if there were enough good movies in that time frame.
Or best non-US movie. But that is mostly because of my current obsession of quality foreign films. |

This is a great idea! Though I wouldn't want to mix the two. How about best chestnut puzzle, and limit it to the ones in the Chestnut Puzzles thread, but with the caveat that people can add to that thread if they want another one to be considered.
Then another competition on best puzzle format. |
