| Thanks for the information. I am a big fan of turtles and anything we can do to help them out is wonderful! |

This turtle had just laid eggs in my garden area, one of at least 3 snappers (that I know of) that did that this year. If living near a wetland this is a regular occurrence, they look for a suitable spot, preferably one that offers bare soil or at least low cut weeds. They want to place their eggs in a location where the sun can incubate. If you're curious, I don't collect any eggs of turtles, but rather try and protect the spot where they are.
A little bit about turtle eggs: once they're laid and they're dropped into the hole excavated by the turtle, then within about a half hour or so, the eggs "set" - that is the yolk and white orient themselves (using gravity), and slightly harden.
At this point onward if attempting to move turtle eggs it's essential to maintain this original position. Otherwise the developing turtle inside will die - either by being crushed or torn (membrane is attached to the inside of the eggshell), or simply suffocate, If for some reason it becomes necessary to move eggs, a felt marker/magic sharpie can be used to draw a small circle on the top of the egg indicating and serving as a reminder which way is up or down, allowing the handler to keep the eggs in the proper/original position at all times.
So please pass this info on. Turtles, like many reptiles and amphibians, are on the decline, mostly due to human encroachment and loss of habitat. The snapping turtle is not on the endangered list at this time, but their numbers are declining pretty much everywhere people show up in any significant numbers.
Awareness and education are important, let's preserve our wild creatures as long as we can. So please pass on this turtle-egg-info to anyone who might need to know.

What a great picture, Dragon Phoenix!
Here is Hanna at 6.5 weeks old.
But she turned out like this!
Here she is (6 mo old) pretending to be a retriever, something she does very well.
Taken last summer at the beach, Hanna (4.5yrs old) an accomplished swimmer.

www.glpics.com is running fine. Setup an account and then send Hy, Lepton, or myself (there are other admins I forgot) a message and the process can be completed.
And before page 2 gets taken over by dogs...

Good question! We really would have preferred not to get it done until spring, but his fur gets so matted (knotted up) that the only practical and non-cruel remedy when it gets that bad is to shear him. It would take several hours to brush him out and it's really uncomfortable for him to get that done. |

Her name is Brittany, we got her about 2 years ago as a rescue dog from a shelter. About 100 pounds of tripping hazard.
On top of the chair is one of our cats, Scratch (he has a sister, Sniff). Obviously the dog is a little bigger than she believes she is
the boy is #2 child, Ollie

Jazz is 8,5 now, Ellen....
Here is one of the funniest shots I took of him. My brother returned him yesterday (he had picked Jazz up when I was kept in the hospital), and having him around helps, especially with my wife in Shanghai.

Our dog Spencer doesn't shed. That's the good news. The bad news is that his fur is a nightmare to maintain. It gets matted and he's constantly in need of grooming. About once a year it gets so bad that we have to have him shaved down to not much.
It's time. I think he has an appointment within a few days to get this done, so might see new pictures in this thread of a dog that looks.......well........different! |

Great thread idea for sure. Hello Chaz! I will try to get some pics posted of my hellion "Hanna" (no I did not beat her to death with a beer bottle, I don't know how that rumor got started) and post them here.
She will be 5 yrs old the end of March, the German Shepherd who thinks she's a Labrador Retriever.
Will need to get a photo bucket account so I won't have to bother Courk or Chuck anymore, will try to get them posted soon.
Once again, great thread! Hope to see more pics of everyone's Alpacas. |

How To Give A Cat A Pill
1. Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.
2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.
3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.
4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm, holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.
5. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.
6. Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.
7. Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.
8. Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw
9. Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink 1 beer to take taste away. Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.
10. Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed. Get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard, and close door on to neck, to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.
11. Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink beer. Fetch bottle of scotch. Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw Tee shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.
12. Call fire department to retrieve the damn cat from across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil wrap.
13. Tie the little $%@^&*s front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy-duty pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of filet steak. Be rough about it. Hold head vertically and pour 2 pints of water down throat to wash pill down.
14. Consume remainder of scotch. Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.
15. Arrange for SPCA to collect mutant cat from hell and call local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters. |
