Anne Frank hid in an Amsterdam attic from the nazis during World War 2. They eventually found her. Although she died in a concentration camp, her diary was later published and became a bestseller. It's also been made into a movie.

As for 'Around the world in 80 days', never read the book, but I've seen the film twice.
