My person is not on that website, Quail. It seems whenever you do a puzzle about famous people, you always find one site that doesn't have them.

One wonders just how famous this individual is.

Stumper: Were you Davy Crockett?

Fess Parker played Davy Crockett in the TV show.

I am stumped. I have no idea what to ask for a general and no idea who this might be.

Hmm .... perhaps a little too obscure.

Emilene Pigott was a Civil War female spy.

www.aboutfamouspeople.com has a section, if you scroll down, titled Famous Women Spies.
She is the first one listed.

I apologise if this has been too obscure.

I agree, DP.

Quote:
She died in 1916, but never revealed to anyone the reason she came to be released from prison.

Though I don't necessarily find Ms. Piggott any more obscure than some of the other -celli answers, I am curious about the quote cited by DP. All I could find about her death was the phrase in the sentence from the website you referenced.

How she managed to avoid a death sentence AND not tell anyone how she did it was exactly why I chose her.

[note to self]no more *celli for Qball[/nts]

Sorry all .....

No need to apologize. When you posted that, I thought maybe she had died under interesting circumstances, like maybe after conquering the Axis forces in WW2, dying in a car wreck later that year (that was General Patton).
