A user in the Puzzles Forum created a "Read This First" message, indicating that first time posters should read that message first, and avoid one of the common mistakes, posting duplicate solutions. He also has periodically "bumped" it to the top.
This gave me an idea. If the moderators would like to create a "Read First" message for their Forum, they could post it into their Forum, then lock it (we can lock threads, right? I obviously don't moderate much). I can then manually edit UBB's database file and set that post's date into the future, so it will always be the first post (but the thread must be locked- otherwise subsequent posts will move it back to the present).
Anyway, something to ponder.

I was doing some thinking about this idea.
The problem is that the post would show a future date. This means all the bulbs would be lit up all the time in every forum that has a "Read First" post.
Unless the code is told to ignore a specific date, like 12-31-2999. hmmmm that might work...
I'll post a thread like Kevin was suggesting, lock it, and change the date.
Then the regulars will wonder why there is a futureistic post in here. |

Hmmm...
Actually this post should update the last post section.
If you mods want to post a read first in here, I'll move the date to 2999, fix the info, lock it, and move it to your appropriate forums for you. |
