Hello, I know the Minotaur is away for a bit, but as I was trying to sift through about 20 different hotseat topics and a whole bunch of other stuff in OT to find something worth reading, I think a forum for discussions like the ones Arawella and Grrrl are famous for making, as well as Paladin's organized debates, would be pretty nice. I know sometimes I'm looking just for topics like that (and other times I'm looking for non-serious ones too), but it would be nice to have those two categories separate so we can at least decide what we're really looking for. I would be happy to mod it, but I don't necessarily have to... either way, I just think it would be a good thing overall... any thoughts from anyone else?

That's what I was thinking, divide OT into two categories.

Jokes and Nonsense Puzzles
Debate and Serious Topics

All sign ups and two word stories can go into Visitor Games.

Well, silly puzzles and whatnot can stay in the VSP forum. But we do need a Debate/Serious Topic forum for people to duke it out intstead of flame each other.

We have too many forums now. Let's get rid of this one.

Please, don't be childish... if this forum is created, neither of you are going to be the moderator of it. I honestly don't care if I am, and I think it should go to Quailman since it is basically an extension of Off-Topic. The point in making new forums is not so that people can act like 8 year olds fighting over a candy bar to be a moderator... it's so that you can better sort discussions.

Maybe we can have a Kindergarten forum, monitored in turn by all of those who want to.

LOL @ both responses (:

If we do that though, we'll need another thread to display finger paintings... who's going to mod that one?

I think Buzzsaw should mod the debate forum. That would rock.

You want my two cents?
Probably not, but too bad.

I think that the Off-Topic should already be a debate/serious discussion forum. There's nothing wrong with a few "get-to-know-yous", or maybe a joke thread or two. but I think that the thrust of OT should be as intelligent as the rest of the GL.

PS. Moding is given to people that can handle the R-E-S-P-O-N-S-I-B-I-L-T-Y. I'm not knocking Buzz, though, he's pretty cool.

I agree with Chuck... we need to get rid of forums. We can start with that big one that Gandalf guy moderates...

Lepton: I'm not sure I agree. For a start, I never post much in the serious debate topics (I suck at arguing, even in a friendly way) and if the OT were entirely or even mostly 'serious' then I guess there wouldn't really be a place for me in the GL anymore. (I read VSP every day, but rarely post.) Yes, this is an incredibly selfish reason.
Apart from that, though, I really do think OT would suffer if we stopped doing threads like the soap opera, the 'GL Quotes', the Theatre Sports story... Non-serious topics can be really good and entertaining and yes, intelligent; they're not always jokes and getting-to-know-you stuff and one-word stories (though the first one-word story was cool.)
I think it's possible that as the GL gets bigger (maybe not just yet, I don't know) it might be a good idea to divide OT into 'serious debates' and, er, less serious stuff. It's already kind of divided like that... But of course the less-serious forum should (and hopefully would) still be intelligent. Unlike this post. ~sigh~

Off topic should be just that... Off topic. That encompasses eveything, except for puzzles and games. If people want to discuss belly button lint, then that is the place to go.

Okay, Luna, I agree with you completely.

I think what I was trying to say is that there are hundreds of places on the internet to discuss "bellybutton lint", but as far as I know, only one place for good puzzles and puzzle-makers to thrive, along with some serious intelligent discussions.

I have no problem with the Mafia Soap Opera or any such fun things, but I do think that priority has to be given to the puzzles.

That is, after all, the reason we're all here.
