33 movies got 3 nominations, 16 of those will get in. The top 2 in all 8 posts will advance. Polls to be held open for a week total.

I know this is huge undertaking, dethwing so I'm not sure what to suggest. I would like to point out that you're grouping three comedies with an all out horror film, making it the orange in a basket of apples.

LIke I said, maybe it's too difficult to do and I'm aware also that many movies are difficult to catagorize.

Personally it was fun to discuss and read about movie tastes of GL'ers but if the choices are being stacked this way, I can't really see any point in my voting.

I'm guessing dethwing stacked them with the help of some randomizing device, as the only sensible way to do it. If he put his own judgment into deciding matchups he would obvously leave himself open to moaning.

I've looked at a couple of other threads and haven't had a problem with voting in those. I guess it's just this particular group of four that I object to. I don't have a clue how we can begin to compare The Ring to those other movies.

The Ring, although the original version (Ringu) is superior.

I really disagree. Having watched both, I think Ringu is less sophisticated, the acting is not as good and the directing and editing are lacking. What did you feel the Hollywood remake lack, DP?

I heard Ringu had more of a detective-y feel to it, than horror-y like The Ring. Would like to see it, though...maybe someone who's coming to visit in a couple of weeks should bring it... ::pokes::

It's good and all, but FBDO is classic. I mean if I'm hanging out with my brother, look at him for a few seconds, and say deadpan "drugs", he knows what to respond with.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.......

I hate this.

How do 4 astounding movies get pitted versus each other when in other groups I have the ever amazing choice of Deer Hunter vs MIB vs KBV2 (okay, I liked this one, but still...) vs Hero which contains 2 movies many have NEVER seen 'round here, 1 of which will probably make it to the real tourney.

whatever.

-k

Oh, and yeah -

'Give a kiss to daddy...'

(edited to fix the movies in the bracket. stupid memory.)

I've seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off many times, and fail to understand its appeal. I'd put it on a par with Better Off Dead with John Cussack.

Why have you seen it many times, then?
Your story's full of holes, and I'm going to beat the truth out of you.

I understand where extro's coming from. It's not my favorite movie, and I've hardly ever thought, "OMG! I need to rent Ferris Bueller tonight!" I also don't have a desire to own it - if I ever do NEED to see it, I'm sure the library will have it. But, if I'm doing something monotonous, or waiting for dinner to finish cooking, and there's nothing else on TV, it's something good to turn on to pass the time.

Risky Business should have been nominated. It did a better job of the ruining-dad's-car bit ("Who's the U-boat commander?").

I always liked my dad's take on Ferris Bueller: It's a little silly and childish...but then again, so is high school.

I was forced to watch it too many times at camp years ago. I never liked it to begin with... True, it is a classic with some great moments. But something about the movie really annoys me and makes me want to shoot the tv.

Youre supposed to be making out with some bloke during the movie, not actually watching the movie.
