I was wondering what would happen if the contest was done based on IMDB ratings/rankings. So here is the anwser. (#X) indicates that it wasn't in the top 250. Uden...has not recieved 5 votes yet, so it is unrated. The number of X's next to the name indicate what round it lost in.
Division 1:
1)Princess Bride 8.2 (#109) XXX
16)Hero (Jet Li) 8.2 (#127) X
8)Die Hard 1 8.0 (#161) XX

Division Winner: LOTR: Return of the King 9.1 (#2)
Final Four:
Star Wars V: Empire Strikes Back 8.7 (#15) VS The Shawshank Redemption 9.1 (#3)
Godfather 1 9.0 (#1) VS LOTR: Return of the King 9.1 (#2)
Going by current Ratings as opposed to the official rankings (which stand to be updated semetime),
Return of the King defeats Godfather, while the Shawshank Redemption breases easily by Star Wars.
This leave us with a tie between SR and RotK.
Highest Ranked movie not in the contest: #5, The Seven Samauri.
Lowest Rated to get in (Not counting Uden...): Men in Black with 6.8
Interesting, no?

| I don't agree with IMDB most of the time. I don't know how they rate the movies, but it is completely wrong. (I picked option 3) It's a good thing we didn't do this tourney according to them. |

They say how they determine them on their website:
weighted rank (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C where:
R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
m = minimum votes required to be listed in the Top 250 (currently 1250)
C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 6.8)
Some kind of "Baysien Estimate". Probably some deep statistical reason that I don't undersand. Why they just don't do mean rating, I have no idea.
Most of them I don't agree either, and to try to make my point I put all the LotR movies at 1...but it didn't do any good. It seems that the Godfather will not be #1 for long. RotK and Shawshank both stand poised to pass it. |

Well, which movie is the best is an opinion. It's not odd or anything that you disagree. _________________ Monkeys are better dead. |

btw dethy, i hope you only intended this as a comparison to our contest, because otherwise, of course the (very first) top rated movie in each category would go into the semifinals. |

| Hmmm...prophetic? It got 3 of the final 4 right, and looks to get the final match as well. It looks like we agree with IMDB more often than we realize. |
