Update: Anyone who'd like to play next, feel free to start. I'm going to stand aside for a bit, unless invited, or you have noone else to play against.

Tags are available! Now who wants to beat my ass? Felicitous

Usage: (hex][boardsize "7"][green "unknown"][red "unknow"][/hex)

History:

Game 1 (5 - 5): (hex][boardsize "10"][green "wordcross"][red "CrystyB"] f5 d5 d6 a7 c8 a9 a8 c7 c6 b7 b5 i5 h4 j3 i2 [/hex]
Best move, imho: (r4) a8!

Game 2 (53 - 73): (hex][boardsize "10"][event "Game #2"][red "JEEP"][green "CrystyB"] d7 f6 g4 e5 e4 b5 c3 d4 d5 a7 e2 f3 e8 g7 f4 d6 c6 b8 b9 c7 e3 j3 i2 h3 h4 [/hex]
Weak moves (maybe): (g3) b5, (g10) c7. (I couldn't find any move to be good enough for a praise.)

(board will be here once gameplay starts)

Right... Oh, Jiminy And i was thinking of removing the options 7, 8, and 9 from the poll since strategies have actually been found for them... Confused

That reminds me of how my ex-girlfriends would usually describe me: 6 foot and 13 inches. I think they preferred *my* size

Chess style. Add the moves before the closing tag. The empty board was available in the first post, it just wasn't revealed. Extreme Delectation

Dice Roll:
Original Roll String: 1d2
1 2-Sided Dice Results: 2
1 = i start, 2 = you start

I doubt he will need that. And there is always the possibility of a rematch... (fwiw, if he asked if he could play first, i wouldn't have used the RNG!)

BTW, wordcross, in case you haven't seen, i played f5.

d6

I don't mean to be rude, but i was under the impression that the opening move should be as close to the small diagonal as possible (preferrably on it)... Unless one chooses to defend, of course. But d3? Confused

I don't think we're playing the same game here... i was under the impression that this game was different than it is. Can i get a basic breakdown of the rules?

Sure: just connect your two opposite sides of the board, using adjacent cells controlled by pegs of your own colour. Take a look here (in BW): http://www.mazeworks.com/hex7/about/basics1.htm Tactically, i'd recommend this: http://www.drking.plus.com/hexagons/hex/templates.html Also (although i hate About.com): http://boardgames.about.com/od/hex/

Btw, I'm more than willing to start over. I think you'll want to. *nudge*

[edit]I'm very curious too as to what you thought this game was about...

ah, i get the game now Revenge most foul! you're right, i believe i would rather rescind my move Revenge most foul!

This is the game i thought we were playing.
http://www.neave.com/games/hexxagon/hexxagon.swf

I reckon you could probably figure out why i went where i did. I admit to being a bit confused as to why we got to place our first pieces, but this was the only game i could recall at the time that had anything to do with hexagonal spaces Revenge most foul!

ok. My move of d6 still stands though... d5 is a little better than d3, but IMO not enough! Especially since you knew what move i was choosing as best way to continue.

Well it should have been a little more obvious, since the letters on the top and bottom sides are in green, and the numbers on the left and right sides are in red... Wink

Btw, am i to understand that you'd like to play on a 7x7 ? Revenge most foul!

Ummm... I'm going to let you change that g6... I don't see the point in blocking the sideways route, while leaving the direct h4 open... Neutral If you want to know what would *I* play if i were in your shoes position, it's i4...

Mad Shhhh! Wink

Well, i guess that was the reason i wanted to play on the GL... Got tired of playing by myself (but it seems i'm still in that mindframe Felicitous ), and i don't like going against computer programs. I guess because i can't chat with them and ask for the reason why it played on that particular hex. Laughing

well, since you're giving me the option, I'd like to change it to i5.

I don't, however, know what you meant about the h4 space. It's just that I realized that g6 was a pretty dumb move.

Would you care for that rematch now?

However, I did find an awesome proof that a draw in a game of Hex is impossible. Felicitous

Until wordx accepts the rematch proposal, i'd like to try to look at some position that bugs me. They say it can be connected, i.e. if played correctly, no defence can prevent that.

My question is: Red defends at d5 (IMO, that's the only sensible defence here - i think any other one can be easily dealt with. Feel free to disagree!). What could green possibly do now to connect?
