Well, I've counted some things in the diagram to see if the numbers give me any ideas. http://www.glpics.com/luckywizard/Final%20Destination.txt

The numbers haven't given me any ideas though. (I even looked at the Wikipedia articles on some of the larger numbers to see if they were a count of anything well-known.)

Aha! It looks like the button could have the initials CCW on it.
Without giving the game away entirely I'll just say that I've always considered myself a bit of a ladies man!

Unsurprisingly, in such a complex puzzle, I think I've found 2 (related) errors:
wrt the 4 rows of double-stacked circles in the top right of the diagram,
the bottom leftmost circle in the bottom row and the top rightmost circle in the 3rd row should be brown not white.
It's not a mistake but a personal sadness that the top circle 7th from the left in the bottom row is not only white but our most recent!

How did your understanding of the three diagrams lead to your conclusion, especially in light of the stars?

I thought that the stars just fixed a particular year (and I haven't got a clue what the left hand part indicates) so in the light of your response I'll give that some more thought...

Those hints did nothing for me. I hope the solution really spells it out, because there's no chance I will ever get this.

I've made no progress with the left hand side, so maybe a hint or two is required...
I'm assuming that the stars indicate the last few stops, and that the 3rd star is actually on the red pentangle rather than the one below it for a good reason. Correct?
I had assumed that the centre section was a different way of looking at the same event clued by the right section, but am now not convinced this is so....
Also the flavourtext suggests we might be looking for a specific person or entity to press the button, rather than the generic puzzle-solver as in the Peacock puzzle. Is this right?

Hmm, I've had this open for a week or so and been staring at it when I can. Some small things I note that may or may not be of use...

- The 4 sets of circles in the top-right seem to be 29 pairs across (with the middle 2 sets missing various ranges)
- The circles in these sets seem to be arranged in some rainbow-like colour order, from left to right
- All of the lines of circles in the middle-right part begin with a white circle

My initial thought was something to do with lifts/elevators, but now I'm not so sure. What comes in pairs of 29? Some kind of sports league with pairs being matches maybe? Hum.

Starting to notice some possible connections now, spoilered:

Namely that if we assume that the middle 2 rows of the top-right bit are supposed to be complete, then they would actually be missing 10 pairs of circles.

Coincidence that there are also 20 lines of circles in the middle? 10 pairs = 20 circles.

There are also 10 shapes in the bottom left. Hmm.

OK, that hint is no help to me, so it's time to come clean with what I've got:
The right hand side shows the finalists in the ladies singles at Wimbledon since the event started in 1884 (gaps for the world wars) The last 5 years show the actual scores, including tie-break results, and the number of sides on each polygon give the lengths of the forenames of the finalists. (The star is on Venus Williams in the final of 2000)
I had thought the centre section was another view of one particular tournament - there are 32 white circles (= no. of seeded players) and the total no. of circles = 126 which would be the total no. of matches upto and including the semi-finals, hence my initial guess of CCW (Centre Court Wimbledon) for the impending final. The no. of dotted lines could split the tournament into rounds - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, QF, SF and final.
(Also the no. of strings of circles = 20, which corresponds to the no. of courts)
However if the star represents a visit and is only against one string of circles, then that theory starts to look a little shakey, and as I say, I have no idea what the left side diagram is supposed to represent. (Flags/countries?)
Another avenue I looked at was to figure out why the star was on Venus herself and not alongside her match against Lindsay Davenport. Was it because there was a probe on the planet Venus in 2000? Do the other sections represent other planets on some long voyage?
Anyway it's time to get someone else speculating on this...

If Oscar is correct, then the left hand side might be related to the London Underground ("Tube") map.

All that is left is the last leg of your journey, said to be the shortest. This could be by Tube. Since the puzzle requires you to punch a button to make this leg of the journey, I suggest you press "Wimbledon" on the automatic ticket machine in the underground station.

The top right is ladies finals too. It goes from left to right, top to bottom where the gaps are the wars. The final one is 1999.

The colors correspond to individual competitors, just like in the bottom right. White circles there correspond to people who have only ever appeared in one Wimbledon ladies final.

And to expand on what impossibleroots already hinted at...[There are XXVI items in the center. ]

This was created over two months...but it also is a very complex puzzle.

To build on Matthew's hint, that obviously suggests letters of the alphabet. If that's true, then the white circles probably represent the the same letter within that word.

I think it's a list of car manufacturers. I can spot Cadillac, Dodge, Ford, GTO, Nissan, Yugo, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Rangerover, etc.

Rereading the flavortext, I think the key thing is that there are several different categories that the sections belong to. The chief refers to him 'cruising around'...this is the middle section.

I think the other three sections are "sweets", "finals", and old "amenities"...with the sweets on the left, finals on the upper right, and amenities on the lower right.

If that's right, Foggy, then I'm guessing the left side represents wrappers of candy bars. Perhaps the green/white/brown one connected to the star is Milky Way?

Okay, I think I've got something... Off to look some stuff up.

That seems very likely, namely (I'm posting without spoilers from here on in)

* Length of the bar is the same relative length of the candy bar
* Thin middle line is the color of its letters
* Other colors indicate colors of the rest of the page
* Connecting lines indicate the company that makes those candies
* Starred connector lines is Mars, manufacturer of Snickers, Milky Way, M&Ms, etc. (The red connector appears to Nestle, as the last of the red items appears to be a Crunch bar)

So of the three starred items, two apparently are planets. Any bets on the third being Venus or Earth?

Oscar already posted a possible interpretation of the right side which gave Venus as the answer. Not sure if it's correct, though, but he sounds as if the diagram is right.

I'm already working on a list for the candy bars (and yes, Mars would be the star), but I ran into a problem with the 6th from the bottom. I can only guess it would be Payday, but it's not connected to the other Hershey's candies.

Finally realized that the colors in the car section tie together like countries of origin...starting with reds for the country, then orange, yellow, etc.

So just to tidy this up, and hopefully finish it off...

I think collectively we've determined the significance of all portions of the diagram. From left to right we have Mars, Mercury, and Venus. Given that the last leg is the shortest, I would have to say that the most likely answer is the Moon.

Then is the answer "Earth"?

If the last few stops were Mars->Mercury->Venus, then only Earth could be the shortest leg of the trip (assuming that Mercury and Venus weren't at opposite points in their orbits)...

I also think earth makes more sense according to the introductory text. There is the mention of the amenities we grew up with, but have been missing; we're anxious to reach the final destination after the chief mentions them, too. I can't see anyone being too anxious to go to the moon and STAY THERE (because this is the last leg of the journey).
