We have one for music. We have one for books. We have one for food even. I did a search and found nothing for movies. If I just missed it, let me know and I will revive it.
This is just the place to post what movies you saw recently and anything you want to say about them. I'll just start things off with the movies I saw in the past week:

Kung Fu Hustle: I really enjoyed this one. Not as good as Shaolin Soccer, but was still great fun. Stephen Chow is both a great actor and director so this is certainly worth checking out if you are a fan of Kung Fu movies or slapstick. No one else was in the theater with me when I saw it, so I guess it didn't do too well.
**1/2

Crash: Not the new one that just came out but Cronenberg's oddity with erotic car crashes. A pretty interesting story about a guy who gets in a car crash and becomes turned on by it. He meets up with a crowd who has the same weird fetish. Very strange, lots of sex scenes, but worth sitting through.
**

Bottle Rocket: Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson's debut film is very good. Very funny about a bunch of guys who want to be criminals, but just don't have it in them. A great acting job by both Wilson brothers and charming story about Dignan's ridiculous gangster dreams.
***

Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels: I have seen this movie countless times and I could still watch it again tomorrow. The complex, multicharacter, collision course movie coupled with hilarious moments and perfect writing makes this one of my favourites. SEE THIS MOVIE! You will not regret it.

Sin City - was decently good; and better than I expected. Over all, I enjoyed it, just wish the story line was a bit more cohesive.
***1/2

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy- I thought it was awful, walked out during one part and came back merely because I was with friends and napped in the back of the theatre til the end of the movie. Dispirited

Just curious: Have you read Douglas Adams and enjoyed it? I'm curious as to whether you dont enjoy his humor or that you're one of those fans that gets upset when the works are not reproduced as expected.

(I enjoyed the movie, and what douglas adams works Ive been exposed to but Ill admit I've only read parts of his books, and played a little of the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy game. I think I've read starship titanic but that was a while ago-its kinda hazy).

I just saw The Breakfast Club on WE network. The simple minds "don't you forget about me" dance scene was spliced from the movie! Can you believe it?!
That was like the best part! How can they cut that out?!

If they don't have time for that scene, don't bother showing the film!!

I was flipping through channels and came across that. There was some horrible editing. In the brief amount of time I had it on, I saw what has to be the worst example of dubbing ever. I'm not overly familiar with Breakfast Club, so I'm not sure what the original line was, but instead of just dubbing out the bad words, they redid the entire sentence, and it was painfully obvious that the guys mouth was saying something else entirely.

That reminds me of the time they showed The Matrix on Network television. They were actually stupid enough to edit out the scene where he's talking to the kid who's bending spoons, thereby omitting the "There is no spoon" line completely. It was utterly foolish, imo, to leave out such an key point.

Meanwhile, the last movie i saw was Shaun of the Dead which was great comedy. I'd give it a 4/5 Revenge most foul!

The Interpreter Nicole Kidman is hot, as always. My dream job is to be an interpreter at the UN, which bumped this movie higher on my scale than it should have. 8/10, but probably 5/10 if you don't have dreams of being an interpreter, or are not turned on by Nicole Kidman, or both (neither).

The Amityville Horror (2005) - Awesome, if you're a fan of horror movies and/or Ryan Reynolds, who is surprisingly good as George Lutz. I was a little worried that I'd be too reminded of Van Wilder to take him seriously, but I was pleasantly surprised. Pretty creepy throughout, with a nice handful of crap-your-pants scare moments.

Strangely enough, word, the last time they showed the Matrix on television may well have been last night, when I watched it. Particularly amusing about the cut you mention is that in a later scene (going up the elevator shaft after the big lobby gunfight) he uses the line "there is no spoon" to reassure himself / summon courage.

So, uh, threadwise, I recently watched the Matrix again. It is superb the whole way through. (6/6)

I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I let on. I was expecting it to be awful. I did laugh out loud a few times, and I'd watch it again if the oppertunity presented itself. I'd give it a 6.5/10

Bruce Almighty, watched it last night before going to bed, and I found it funnier than I expected since I had heard nothing good about it. The scene where he had the newscaster go into a minute of spouting gibberish after reading the wrong lines from the teleprompter had me cracking up. I'd give it a 6/10

I didn't like Great Escape all that much. I mean, it was a good way to spend an afternoon, but I don't think I'd watch it again.

Most recent movie I watched was Amelie, as I am still watching movies from the movie tourney that I hadn't seen. It was pretty good, though definitely not the sort of movie I would normally watch.

Meet the Fokkers It had some funny moments, and I could tell they were trying to avoid using the puerile play on words too often. Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand added a new dimension that differentiated it from Meet the Parents.

I just saw National Treasure last night. I wasn't expecting very much more than, Eh, as I recalled hating the give-away previews for the movie, but it had more turns than I thought, went in a direction different from what I expected, and it was pretty exciting. 7.5/10

The Terminal - Cast includes Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones. Interesting concept (about a guy who gets stuck in an airport terminal for months because of a beauracratic glitch) and started well but didn't really go anywhere and was annoyingly smultchy. Rating: ***

Bourne Supremacy - Starring Matt Damon. Follows on quite closely with the original film (Bourne Identity) so if you haven't seen that in a while, watch it again first. Generally an excellent thriller along the same lines as the first film. Some annoying, deliberately choppy action/fight sequences stop it from getting top marks. Rating: ****

Elektra. Way better than I expected. More cool action sequences than Daredevil, better plot/acting/special effects than Catwoman (that's not too hard). It isn't X-Men or Spider-Man by a long shot, but it beats the heck out of Hulk.

Plus, Jennifer Garner in form-fitting red leather. I am secure enough as a heterosexual female that I can say: ROWR!

oh, and also, I finally saw The Incredible and it was excellent! Still liked Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo better but it was quite enjoyable and very well done. Favorite character would be Violet.

Also saw Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and could not get into it. There were some very clever moments and a few funny things in it but overall I found it got a bit dull. I have problems with movies where I don't care about the characters (especially if there is little to no redeaming qualities polot-wise) I do give it high marks for art direction, costume design, and cinematography. Also, Jim Carrey did a pretty good job as a completely rediculous evil Olaf.

I agree with Fried Egg regarding The Bourne Supremacy Although, I don't like the style of moving the camera all around to simulate realness and action. It is distracting and insults the intelligence of the viewer.

S.W.A.T. was also filmed with that style, along with a pitiful music score, IMO. Jimmy Hendrix helped make one scene ridiculously macho to the extent of foolishness along with the stupid RAP crap throughout.

Anyways, I hope the jiggling camera thing goes away. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Am I the only one here who finds this new style insulting, obnoxious, offensive, annoying and distracting?

Well, at least annoying/distracting?

Oh I guess I could add something about Electra. What a banal, boring movie. The first 45 minutes is a Garner posefest. He is just walking around, swimming, acting like he is all beautiful and doing... nothing. Just going from place to place and having acid flashabcks about... inane meaningless childhood moments.

Then he meets up with this aggravating, annoying pest of a neighbor kid. This kid breaks into the house of a trained deadly ninja ass spreading killer that could swing either way from being the savior of the world or the harbinger of its doom, steals his most prized trinket, and doesnt even get a tooth knocked out of her.

Logically, this kid should have been impaled in the front yard, but instead we get to meet her douchebag of a dad instead. Once I realized that these schmucks werent going to die in the next few minutes, I had to quit this inane borefest. What a waste of a blank DVD.

Ooh, I want to watch Great Escape again, now...

This wasn't the last movie I saw, but it is a recent one: Battle of Britain. It's pretty good. I have movie ADD, so I have a hard time following which actor is which, especially when they all kinda look similar. I should watch it again and focus on who the people are, then report back on it.

I have read the books. and listened to the radio shows. and by far, both are a million times better than the movie. I can't deal with bad acting, screwed up plot, lack of douglas adams humor (after the first half hour), no real character development and a cheesey romance placed there to sell tickets. I guess i m a theatre snob. (comes with being an almost theatre major switched to a minor, i suppose.)

I remember reading this a couple of months back:

Quote:
Alias co-star Michael Vartan says his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Garner knew Elektra was going to be a bomb, but had to do the film anyway because she was under contract. Vartan told Us Weekly that he hadn't seen Elektra, but "I heard it was awful." He told the reporter that Garner even said it was aweful, but she had to do it because of a clause in her Daredevil contract.

I'm surprised anyone went to see it after the star had that to say about it.

I agree with the assessment (mostly) but not with the result.
Buffalo '66
The plot was too ridiculous for me. I mean, what kind of girl would try so hard to help someone that had abducted her, to the point that she falls in love with him? For that matter, who kidnaps somebody, honestly expecting that they will do you a favour, in exchange for "I'll be your best friend?" I'll swallow a much more preposterous plot if that's the point of the movie, but this one seemed like it was supposed to be fairly realistic. Maybe I missed a memo or something.
The acting was quite good, especially when everyone (mostly Billy, but not strictly) was angry. Which is part of what I didn't like. The angry I mean, not the good acting. I'm a bit of an emotional sponge and it made me very tense.
The verdict: ***. Better than average, but not something I'd watch often.
