Bah.
I even like the Narnia books, but the Count is so much better. |

It depends on what you mean by #1. If you go by the order they were published in, then yes. But today, most people order them by the time-line of the story.
And in the story itself "A Horse and his boy" takes place first, and is thus Book #1. |

Does the horse and his boy really take place first. I thought the Magician's Nephew took first because that's how they got to Narnia. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

The Magician's Nephew is, Chronoligically, first. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

| Until just recently, and then only here, I've never seen anyone put LW&W as #2. |

| Looks like my memory is a bit off. It has been an awful long time since I read the series. |

I usually put LW&W as not on my list to read because I despise it. Everyone likes it, so someone has to loathe it. Besides, notice they are coming out with that movie before any other. And notice that if one of them is assigned for school reading, that one is it. I mean, some of the others are much better for discussing as they actually bring up issues worth talking about.[/rant] _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

It's been quite some time since I've read anything relating to Narnia. I obviously enjoyed the series, since I read most, if not all, of the books. It seems in a series like that, though, it builds a bit off of itself. LWW is the introduction: Here is Narnia, the place where weird stuff happens, especially to these children. Enjoy. I don't remember books afterwards reexplaining things. I know I notice now if a later book in a series recaps earlier books -- because I find it a tad annoying, since I read the previous books and have a memory that, at times, is rather unsieve-like -- but I don't know if I had that pet peeve when I read the Narnia books.
This rant does have a point: If later books don't reintroduce Narnia or explain some past events, then it might be hard to have an effective discussion about those books. |

Here's an excellent essay on whether the books should be read in publication order (putting The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe first) or in the order of chronology of events within the seven novels (putting The Magician's Nephew first).
Side note: A friend of mine read this essay and it helped her decide which book she chose to read first. Afterward she was satisfied with her decision. |

I was bored to tears with that Narnia series. The kids were smarmy and as dumb as rocks and that annoyed me. _________________ "I didn't know she was your sister I swear!"

You are actually allowed your own opinion about how you wish to read the Narnia series, but if you are a first-timer, I strongly suggest reading them in chronological order. Courk and others may disagree, but this is my opinion. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |

My first time was from Lion on and was shocked when I saw (Years later) A store selling them in a different order.
I think that it's silly, personally, but people can read them in any order they wish. |
