At Courk's suggestion I m starting this thread. I am a historical tour guide along the freedom trail here in Boston. SO this is the part where you ask questions and I tell you stories. If I can manage it, i ll actually record me telling the story, so its a bit more like the tour. and if you are ever in boston, let me know, i ll give ya a tour. (i wear a wicked sweet purple colonial costume). Revenge most foul!

Note: I don't claim to be an expert, and I may not beable to answer all your questions, but I will certainly do my best. Enthusiastic Grin And anyone else who has some historical knowledge, please feel free to chime in too. Revenge most foul!

The first stop on the tour is the Boston Common. *dons 17th Century Personality* Walk this way please *walks like a penguin*

AH, here we are on the Boston Common. The Boston Common was originally inhabited by one man and his 200 books. His name was William Blackstone and he came to the mile wide town of Boston at about the same time as the Puritans (1623). The Purtains did not live with Mr. Blackstone, as they thought that Boston was a dirty place with no drinkable water. They moved over the river to Charlestown, which turned out to be a dirty place with no drinkable water. William Blackstone, being the kind man that he was, invited the Puritans to join him in Boston. This turned out to be a huge mistake for Mr Blackstone. You see, the Puritans had all kinds of strict rules and customs they followed that drove Mr. Blackstone crazy. Shortly after the Puritans moved in, William Blackstone packed up his books and moved away. He returned only once more, 3 years later, to collect his mistress and the Puritans never heard from him again.

If you look over to your left, you ll see children playing and having fun on what we call "The Frog Pond". Now in my day, it was also called the frog pond due to the extensive amount of frogs in the pond. And even then you could see Puritan children playing and having fun in the pond. You see, the Puritans were a very bored lot, as they didn't have the reality TV or video games (or the GL) like we have today. They also were very strict. You could be put in the stocks just for kissing your wife on a sunday and gentlemen, if you forgot your hat, well Heaven help you. So with this combination of boredem and strictness, the Puritans were constantly putting people to death. And one of the most popular methods involved the frog pond and something that looked very much like a see-saw. The only difference was this see-saw had a hole in one end, which was over the frog pond. So when you were bad, they d tie you down to that side of the see-saw, sticking your head in the hole. All the local children were then encouraged to go and jump on the other side, dunking you in and out of the pond all day long. This method was great because the kids were able to have some fun with the pond, just like they are today.

If you ll all follow me please.... No, just once. and the cat, not me will be eating you...

I believe that Paul Revere, George Hewes, Samuel Adams and Lendall Pitts were four of the main leaders of the patriots. They were all members of 'the Boston Committee of Correspondence' who were behind the Tea Party shananigans Revenge most foul!

John Hancock was also involved, and actually contributed an integral part of the whole tea party.

The Boston Tea Party is told in text books as 150 sons of liberty dressed as indians going down to the docks and dumping all the tea. This is slightly inaccurate, as at the time of the "tea party" there were only 50 sons of liberty. As the sons of liberty planned out this venture, they quickly realized that their numbers were far too small to accomplish such a feat. Now, John Hancock was at the time, one of the richest and the most important man in New England. In Boston alone, he had 50% of the working class working for him and 40% across New England. So he offered this solution: he would send a memo to all his workers in Boston telling them to head over to the docks after working the day, to dump the tea off the ships. You see, the working class had no idea about the tea tax, as they were too poor to afford tea. The 50 sons of liberty dressed as indians and went as well, and thus, the Boston tea party. It is interesting to note that, to the working class, there were no hard feelings. One man who helped dump the tea went the next day to join the British navy because it paid better.

So through a long chain of connections that makes sense only for me, I jumped from thinking about a jacket-in-a-bag to my middle school visit to Faneuil Hall. Realized that I plum forgot why it was important, then I remembered this thread. Care to remind us?

ooo...ooo...I love Boston. I once worked for one of the many Trolley tours in the Old Towne.

So where are all the sites for the planets that are in scale to our solar System?
