| Unfounded teenage angst. It's a surprise to me that Catcher's doing so well. |

There's a difference between angst and introspection.
(not voting, have only read Catcher.) |

I haven't read Catcher, but Sideways Stories was one of my favorites as a kid.
I still don't see a problem with voting when you've only read one...if I only voted when I've read both, I'd never vote. Probably ever. |

| I think I read Sideways Stories. Was it a series, or just one book? |

| No need to be sad about that. If I remember correctly, the book's nothing to write home about. I don't hate the book, and it was amusing when I was in 5th grade (I think the teacher read it to us, though why she would do that when we were in 5th grade is beyond me), but that's all it is: amusing for a 10 year old. There are other books I read within a year of that that I have a much greater desire to read again -- Watership Down and The Hunt for Red October. |

YES! A sane person at last! As for Sideways Stories, it's a decent children's book iwth loosely connected stories. At least it doesn't suck. |

| I have to vote for Salinger. Franny and Zooey was better, but either is still better than the drivel of Sideways Stories. |

| Maybe I haven't read Sideways Stories. I remember a brother and sister were living in a museum (I can't remember if they ran away from home or someone they were visiting). Also, I remember that the brother had a fever at one point. And at one point I think they had to figure out where Michelangelo was from. Is that Sideways Stories? |

Mixed-up Files, Sideways Stories. Close enough.
Yeah, that's the one I remember. |

Except that they are completely different.
Sideways stories is a collection of (it's been so long, someone correct me) about 30 short stories about people who go to this school, and hillarious stuff that they do.
For instance, there is the one with the kid who becomes class president so he can turn on the lights in the morning. He is late one day to comfort one of his classmates whose pet died. The class sits in darkness waiting for him. Hillarious. |

Except that Mixed-Up Files is way better. That one I would read again, although it would take all of an hour. Sideways Stories, I might read that to my kids. I just don't think it was any good past 5th grade. _________________ Paragon Tally: 19 mafia, 3 SKs (1 twice), 1 cultist, numerous chat scum...and counting. |
