recently (within the last month) my desktop PC has been having trouble. Anytime i use Windows Media Player, My computer freezes. I thought, at first, it was software related, but then it started doing it with Realplayer too. I tried rolling back the version of media player to see if that would help, and it seemed to at first, but then it started doing it worse than before. And now that i've been using realplayer for everything, it's doing the same thing. I haven't noticed it with quicktime, but i don't use quicktime much on this computer.
Anyone know if it's possible that it's a hardware problem (soundcard?) or if there's a software explanation that's possible? I don't *think* it's a virus or worm or anything. I'm pretty careful about things i download/install, I don't use IE or Outlook, Norton Antivirus is always running, i scan weekly, and it hasn't recognized any virus thingys.
Anyone with any suggestions would be welcome _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

| What kind of videos are you playing? What's the container (mkv, ogm, avi, mpg), what's the format (mpeg, divx, xvid), and what's the sound (ac3, mp3, ogg)? |

Winamp is an excellent alternative to WMP. _________________ Forever is such an unpleasant word |

This is also great: "Media Player Classic", a sort of Windows Media Player version 6 look-alike, but plays more formats and better.
But to the question asked, it could be hardware or a driver conflict. |

I just tried it in winamp. same thing happens after a while.
also, as far as media types, it happens with mpegs the most, but also mpg, wmv, avi, and on the audio side, both mp3s and wmas.
it *might* be a driver conflict, but would that affect multiple media-playback programs? _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |
