Could you post or email the results of a traceroute?
One for the GL (which works), GLPics, and mafiascum would be great.
If you're not sure how to do this, click on the start menu, then run. In the prompt type 'command' and hit enter. At the command prompt type 'tracert www.glpics.com' replacing the mafiascum and GL urls for the other routes. |

| Well, I think it has to do with the way the sites work. The GLs IP can be directly typed into the browser and you get here. Not so for GLpics and mafiascum. It could be some kind of anti-spoofing software or something on your end. |

Don't know, and I got the feeling they don;t know either. They just tride a lot of different descriptions of their own connections in the connection box until they found one that worked. _________________ The only thing that helps me maintain my slender grip on reality is the friendship I share with my collection of singing potatoes. |

I didn't read this whole thread (mostly skimmed), but I couldn't access scum directly. I typed in www.mafiascum.net, but my computer said it wasn't a real site or something and offered alternate web addresses. Fortunately, one of these was a profile from scum and I could backtrack from there.
Just thought I'd tell somebody. I don't know if it's a real problem, but maybe somebody needed to know. |

The problem is that there's no "www" in the maf scum address. It's just http://mafiascum.net/ |

If people are still interested, I got a belated more detailed explanation from my provider by email:
| Quote: |
| Our ICT department tells us that some web sites / providers block the new IP range 84.80.x.x - 84.87.x.x, which includes your IP adress. |

I recently lost my ability to connect to scum or glpics. tcptraceroute gives nothing of use:
tcptraceroute www.glpics.com
Selected device eth0, address 192.168.1.101, port 2440 for outgoing packets
Tracing the path to www.glpics.com (207.218.250.225) on TCP port 80, 30 hops max
1 * * *
2 * * *
3 * * *
(and so on up to line 30); tcptraceroute greylabyrinth.com gives a similar result.
Setup is computer -> router -> cable modem.
Any idea what's wrong? |

I tried signing up for a GLPics account a few weeks ago and still have not got a response.
Is this normal? |

Rereading the "new account" page, it seems Hy personally handles signups.
Hy hasn't been on the GL much if at all lately, and in the thread The Cruciverbalist started here in FR/SP a few days ago, people were saying that they couldn't get ahold of him. That might explain it.
*signed up back in the days when you had to actually send an email to Hy with your desired username and password, and you got 10 megs and a subdomain*
Oh, and back to Jedo and Courk's conversation a few posts back:
mafiascum.net works correctly with and without the www. For some reason, Internet Explorer/MSN occasionally returns that error even when the domain name is legitimate. Don't know why. Trying again usually works.
The reason Jedo's link doesn't link correctly is because the forum interprets the comma after Jedo's URL as part of the URL. I usually put in a space after the URL to prevent this. |

I posted this on mafiascum a few days back
| Quote: |
This is the up to date list of 'Bogons', or IP ranges that are blocked by most ISPs.
http://www.cymru.com/Documents/bogon-dd.html
check the list headed up Dotted Decimal Aggregated
If you have trouble working ouy the netmasks, then try http://jodies.de/ipcalc enter in the starting IP range ie 176.0.0.0 and netmask of 248.0.0.0 and it'll give you
HostMin: 176.0.0.1
HostMax: 183.255.255.254
It also kindly shows you just how to apply the netmask for those that wish to learn
Oh I should also point out http://www.cymru.com/Documents/bogon-list.html this pages details recent changes, so you can see if a network provider are not updating their lists, which is very very bad. |

My ISP assigns me an IP from the range 85.73.x.x but that range is blocked by sites which haven't updated their list of Bogons, right?
What, then, can I do to access scum? Where does the IPcalc site show how and why to apply the netmask?
