| The need for sleep is interesting. If we can't really say why sleep (as opposed to lying in bed awake, physically resting) is necessary, what can we rationally conclude about whether it's part of an intelligent design? |

My take on it is that the need for sleep is a demonstration that what we feel as consciousness is really an active process that goes on in the brain. Consciousness may just feel passive because we take is so for granted. We know that physical processes like walking need occasional rest so that the instruments of walking (legs) can get replenished. I think of sleeping as a resting of the neural instruments of consciousness so that they can be replenished too.
But then again, I'm no brain surgeon. I'm just a horse. |

Fair enough. Since I genuinely wrote the controversial post with no animosity, I still find it hard to believe it could be taken so badly. Still, maybe I'm not the best person to judge. Way I see it, if one person says you're acting like a dick then there's room for argument. If several people are saying it, as seems the case here, you just gotta suck it up and face the fact that, yes, you were probably acting like a bit of a dick.
I apologise, unreservedly, if my original post came off as arrogant or condescending. It was genuinely not intended to be. |
