i have two possible solutions of my own to this puzzle.
#1: it said your most efficiant walking pace was 20 miles a day. well run. then you could cover about at least 40 miles a day (your legs are strong because you've been walking around in the desert all that time) and then you'd get to civilization within 3 days, and you'd have all your food with one stop at the oasis.
#2: take 3 says supplies, go twenty miles, drop one day's food off, and go back to the oasis. take another 3 days supplies,go back to the spot where the other supplies were, and drop another day's supplies there. then take three days supplies and go back to that same spot. since you've used up one day's supplies walking there, you now have four days supplies with you and civilization is no more than 80 miles away, so you have enough food to finish. maximum time: 9 days. |

Doesn't work. You have to assume you can't run because you'd need more water to keep going if you did. And as for the second, you can only carry 3 days worth of food. Your solution requires four.

It's not the size of the spork, it's whether or not it's made of #7 recyclable plastic.
