I'm not bored enough to look this up myself:
When before 2005 the big 6 awards (Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress) go to 6 different movies? |

What the heck; I'll do the digging for facts.
Awards for supporting actor and actress don't exist until 1936. The awards for some early years allowed the actor and actress to get the award for more than one role. In 1927-1928 (the dating system changed to a single year in 1934) you can say that the Big Four went to six different films. (There is one duplication among the awards.)
| Quote: |
Best Picture
"Wings"
Best Actor
Emil Jannings in "The Way Of All Flesh" and "The Last Command"
Best Actress
Janet Gaynor in "Seventh Heaven," "Street Angel" and "Sunrise"
Best Director
Frank Borzage for "Seventh Heaven"
|
The 1930-1931 Big Four went to four different films:
| Quote: |
Best Picture
"Cimarron"
Best Actor
Lionel Barrymore in "A Free Soul"
Best Actress
Marie Dressler in "Min And Bill"
Best Director
Norman Taurog for "Skippy"
|
Five films in 1931-1932 (due to a tie for actor):
| Quote: |
Best Picture
"Grand Hotel"
Best Actor
Wallace Beery in "The Champ"
Fredric March in "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde"
Best Actress
Helen Hayes in "The Sin of Madelon Claudet"
Best Director
Frank Borzage for "Bad Girl"
|
Now we get to the years when we had the Big Six.
Six different films in 1952:
| Quote: |
Best Picture
"The Greatest Show on Earth"
Best Actor
Gary Cooper in "High Noon"
Best Actress
Shirley Booth in "Come Back, Little Sheba"
Best Supporting Actor
Anthony Quinn in "Viva Zapata!"
Best Supporting Actress
Gloria Grahame in "The Bad and the Beautiful"
Best Director
John Ford for "The Quiet Man"
|
Six different films in 1956:
| Quote: |
Best Picture
"Around the World in 80 Days"
Best Actor
Yul Brynner in "The King and I"
Best Actress
Ingrid Bergman in "Anastasia"
Best Supporting Actor
Anthony Quinn in "Lust for Life"
Best Supporting Actress
Dorothy Malone in "Written on the Wind"
Best Director
George Stevens for "Giant"
|
Six different films, but a duplicate award (due to a tie for actress) in 1968:
| Quote: |
Best Picture
"Oliver!"
Best Actor
Cliff Robertson in "Charly"
Best Actress
Katharine Hepburn in "The Lion in Winter"
Barbra Streisand for "Funny Girl"
Best Supporting Actor
Jack Albertson in "The Subject Was Roses"
Best Supporting Actress
Ruth Gordon in "Rosemary's Baby"
Best Director
Carol Reed for "Oliver!"
|
Then we have to go all the way to 2005 to get six different films:
| Quote: |
ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
* Philip Seymour Hoffman -- Capote {"Truman Capote"}
ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
* George Clooney -- Syriana {"Bob Barnes"}
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
* Reese Witherspoon -- Walk the Line {"June Carter"}
ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
* Rachel Weisz -- The Constant Gardener {"Tessa Quayle"}
DIRECTING
* Brokeback Mountain -- Ang Lee
BEST PICTURE
* Crash -- Paul Haggis and Cathy Schulman, Producers

The Hollywood Left is poisoning America. Instead of paying for all those tuxedos and dresses, they should have donated money to black people in New Orleans. _________________ Monkeys are better dead. |
