Is it still possible to use the old chess formatting?

I guess this is more of a question than a request. Back before we had the chess tags we used 64 individual image tags. I was wondering if those images still existed somewhere, and if so, where are they? The reason I'm wondering is because I would like to try playtesting a chesslike game in the near future that requires a nonstandard arrangement of light and dark squares.

the ones found here?
http://www.greylabyrinth.com/Img/chess/

for some reason it doesn't give you an index. But all the images come apart...like this one

http://www.greylabyrinth.com/Img/chess/dnb.gif

l = light, d= dark (for square color)
p= pawn, r= rook, b=bishop, q=queen, k=king, ee= blank
b= black, w= white for the player color
numbers are just numbers, letters are just letters

so a dnb.gif is a dark square with a black knight.
and ee.gif is a spacer

It's not "some reason", it's insecure to let people browse your directories. The ones that don't have content on the GL have an empty index page.

Yep, many probably are...

You can also force the squares to be different colors using the new tags. prefixing the character in the FEN string with a ^ will swap the colors.

Edit: Antrax, are you saying that security isn't "some reason"? Seems like a reason to me. -JEEP

"some" implies "indefinite", at least to me.

Hm. I'd say that in phrases like "for some reason" it's more like "one unknown to the utterer/author", which in this case, of course, it was.

("Some", in case we haven't noticed, is a horrendously annoying word to categorize, as its uses are a. legion, b. somewhat fuzzy, and c. uncategorized by traditional grammarians, who frown on most of them.)

Are the chess tags still not working?

I'll have to look into making this work again. I had a blast doing it in perl. I bet it'll be a lot harder in PHP, but surely it'll be possible.
