| Hmmm - Is "descry one, fire two" a random anagram, or is there a pattern to getting it. I just don't think a THP by Dave10k would have a random anagram, that's all... |

...and here I thought "odd" and "Even" were just telling if the number of letters in the answer was odd or even... are we getting too confused with this?

| "descry one, fire two" ain't random: it comes from ordering the answers by the sum of their paired numerals (see reply 32) |

Ohhhh!!!
Sorry 'bout that. Hmm - reading though the rest of the thread, looks like all the info provided has been used once.
odd/even - word lengths (sorta)
numbers on the left - ordering the paris
first/second etc. - Letter to pick
Which means - "DESCRY ONE FIRE TWO" must be really, really close to the final answer. Hmmm - "Two for One"... |

Leg-end pairs up with foot.
We're pretty sure that everything up to "descry one, fire two" is correct |

while this is purely grasping at straws, one thought that keeps surfacing when I read "descry one, fire two" is of a sniper ... looking through the telescopic sights, seeing one target, firing twice to be sure of his kill. Another word for sniper that might also fit with the party atmosphere is ... shooter?

Hey! If you only make three posts in six months, you're not supposed to actually solve any puzzles.

Heck, the hard part was already done for me. I like swooping in for the last 2% of the work, posting the solution and getting all the glory. Grin icon.

| In the puzzle, all the first-round words were paired off with one of the words being divided into two parts (drink --> Dr. ink) that was a synonym for the undivided word. The one/two part of the 'Descry one fire two' implies that the one-word form means descry, but the two-word form means fire. Descry = notice, whereas fire = not ice. Brilliant puzzle, as all of Dave's are. |

How about Descry one -(N)otice and Fire two - n(o)t - ice
That leaves you with the word no
Dunno if that's getting any closer or not |

I'm not sure, but I think White Shark and Golden Bear are nicknames of famous golfers.

Er, I believe it meant the answer would have two meanings, like NOTICE and NOT ICE.
