hi im new here but i have a fast answer for that puzzle,
so, the dinner was for 10 ppl.... the professor get 9 diferent answers, so there were 9 dif. ppl... getting minus one, because of his wife, its a total of 8 ppl, so each one get 8 handshakes before dinner!!! ta taaaaaa
mmm anyway i didnt broke my head, i solved one like that, time ago. see you
