I was wondering if this feature could be enhanced. Right now, you have the simple checkbox to get an email each time a new post is made in a thread.
First, I like this feature and want to keep it this way, but I was wondering if there could be a second option since there are reasons you would want a notification sent, but not with every new post.
I was thinking this in my Guess The Movie thread, where maybe people would want notification when I (or someone else) posts new pics. It would be good in mafia game announcements or deadline posts or new turn posts in any running game like Acrophilia.
So my suggestion would be to have radial buttons option under the notify checkbox, called "always" or "on specific posts". A poster to that thread would have a checkbox to "send notifications now" This way, someone can post to a thread and force a notification for that post only to anyone who is monitoring the thread. Hope that makes sense. |

I find that if the mod sends out notices themselves to anyone who requests it, it works just fine. _________________ Space for sale. PM i_h8_evil_stuff for details. |

| Yes, why use a computer to automate tedious tasks? |

Yes, but if two people want to be notified on the next occurance two different events, the automated notifications will not work. And it doesn't take all that much effort to add a comma, a space, and the next person's email address into the recipient bar, especially when you have themall in a list, and all you have to do is copy-paste. _________________ Space for sale. i_h8_evil_stuff, and if it's more than 2 people and you don't even have a full list of who would be interested what do you do?
Like I said in my examples above, this would be very useful in something like my Guess The Movie thread. I'm sure people would like to be notified when new movies are posted, but not each new post in the thread. Plus, a total of 69 people have guessed at the movies and played, but I'm sure not all of them want to be automatically emailed unless they request it....or at least they'd have the option of being emailed or stopping emails on their own. |

| I think it's a pretty good idea. People who feel like they need a reminder could get that reminder without any extra work from the mod. I'm thinking of mafia games, if people feel like they'd miss a portion of the day because they didn't know it was day. With the PM system on the boards, I don't know of any mod that asks for e-mail addresses anymore, and some people choose to hide their e-mails. In order to send a notification of day to all the players, a mod would have to PM each one individually. |

Simple. You state in the beginning of the thread that you'll send out notifications to anyone who wants, and to anyone who responds, you copy down the email addresses in a notepad file in the format of "qwe@rtyu.iop, asd@fgh.jkl, z@xcv.bnm, ..." Then, when you want to send out an email, you copy-paste that entire line into the "recipient" bar of your email. _________________ Space for sale. PM i_h8_evil_stuff for details. |

Bump.
I still think this would be a good feature to have. Especially in game threads. Any chance this could be coded without too much work? |

I don't recall ever seeing this thread, so I guess you posted it all just now, then hacked the server to change all the post dates and poster names.
That being said, could you specify exactly under what conditions someone gets notified? Let's say I turn on this new feature for a mafia game. What is the logical condition that has to hold for me to get a notification? Likewise for your movie game? _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. And quick! |

Antrax, I'm looking at like this.
When a thread starter posts to their thread they can have a checkbox with the option: notify all users signed up for limited notification
For mafia threads, the mod could check this off each time he posts that day or night has begun, or as in my movie thread I would check it off only when I make a post with new movies. |
