What am I supposed to see in that link?

Just curious, how did the sales and reception of the first book go? Are you going to retire and do this full time now?

You know, I wrote an article about publishing and posted it to my blog. It made it to the front page of Digg, and caused quite an uproar. The gist of it was that basically the creators of art don't really make money off their art, it's the folks who control the distribution. My book generated about $75,000. I saw about $3,000 of that. So for me to quit I'd either need to sell a whole freaking pile of books, or I'd need to write about 12 books a year. I don't think either is going to happen. Revenge most foul!

But for a first time author, and for a small time publisher in Utah, it did pretty good. It went through a first printing, and is going through a second, so that's not bad at all. I just had a fun time writing it, and it's been a whole lot of fun meeting people who enjoyed it, and have shared similar stories of their childhood. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything, but with the exception of a handful of high profile authors (steven king, jk rowling, dan brown), it's pretty hard to make a lot of money as an author. Several more authors can make a decent living, but for the majority of us, it's a nice hobby that happens to bring in a few dollars.

No, you're talking about a company that wouldn't let me use a scene that referred to butt cheeks. Mind you, I didn't say butt, just cheeks. I posted the complete story here.

http://chickenarmpits.blogspot.com/2007/01/cutting-room-floor.html

So they're going with reviews from the last book. Dispirited

Congrats on the book.

On sale, a bottle of soda will go as low as 69 cents.
