I voted fair. I would have voted good if it didn't include "Better than the old look".

I like it equally, but as I get used to it, I expect to like it more. No complaints.

Besides moving the main icons on the left to the top (which has been mentioned ample times already), I have nothing to complain about.

Very happy with the changes. Well done! 8)

OK, In other words. As long as it is only a 99.999999999999...% replica of the old one, I'm unhappy.

I want it EXACTLY as it was.

If I could change the rating I gave, it would be up from 2 to 3+ after the recent changes.

Yes, I would like my vote to be changed from a 3 to a 4, and it will be a 5 if we bring back the php action icons.

I suppose a poll isn't the greatest way since people's attitudes to the site design are dynamic, but then again, once most/all of the changes are implimented, we can set a new poll, and look at the change.

This poll was made to give me a feel of how people feel about the look we had right after the switch. This allowed me to know how important design changes are - in essensce, how traumatasing the switch was. I'm aware people are growing to love it more as we cater to their wants - as should be. Once we implement all major design changes, I'll probably start another poll.

I gave it a 4 after the switch. I'm not sure where referee's hang-ups are. Good riddance to the old GL and its huge limitations for new changes.

And I'm still with i_h8_evil_stuff on the return of the php action icons Revenge most foul!

Tired of his old title

When I first tried the new forum, it was really slow, but it seems to be fine, now. A couple of comments:

I really like the technique for adding bold, etc. BB codes to the text. I have used other systems where they have a button for these, but none where the state of the button changes as yours does. I really like your technique.

Cool! I was about to complain about it always putting the tags at the end, which is a pain if you want to insert the tags somewhere in your existing text, but your method is even better! For those who haven't discovered this, you can select some text and click the button, and it will correctly surround your selection with the tags!

I still feel that the multitude of icons on the bottom of every post makes for some serious page clutter. They are only rarely used and do not need to be so prominent. In fact, you could put all of them on a right-click menu on the person's nickname, and eliminate that row altogether. The quote and edit buttons aren't so bad, because the edit button is pretty infrequent, and the quote buttons are off to the right rather than in your main eyeball-navigation area.

One last thing, I would like to be able to increase the size of this window I am editing in. Doing this as a user preference would be great.

[edit]Oh yeah, another thing: In the thread like Quickies where the password to a special account is the answer to the current puzzle, it is really a pain to log out, log in, find the puzzle again to post the solution and a new puzzle, then log out, log in to get back to yourself.

A great solution would be to have, on each thread page, a "log in as a different user" button, which lets you log in, and then brings you back to the same thread. This button should go on the bottom of the page, rather than the top, because that is where the user is when he has solved the puzzle.

It would be really cool if only certain threads got this button, so of course the button would allow you only to log in as the user who created the thread. (i.e. a {Log in as Quickies} button, only in the Quickies thread, because a moderator or the thread creator set some flag to turn on this behavior.) [/edit]

Thanks,
Zag

Have I mentioned that I create web-based user interfaces for a living? I could give you lots more feedback, if you want to be swamped. Laughing But then I might be tempted to send you a bill.

One thing I would like to see is those (IMHO) gawd-awful bubbly icons at the bottom of every post to be back to the old ones and create some new ones that are Old-Board-esque.

Also, could each page of the fora listing the threads within each forum have the threads alternate grey and white as posts do?

Less important to me are the following: They are at the top.
Also, I find the info underneath each name to be a bit messy. Could that be reserved for only profiles?

Its really as simple as this

I used to play mafia on Mafia scum, and then when GL mafia took off - I played exclusively on that. The reason? I didnt like the Mafia scum site because it used an awkward/ugly/annoying bulletin board system.

So logically the GL changed to that system.

Regardless of that - I want the old emoticons back - they looked better and had more character #Revenge most foul! and all that. (Provided the ??? doesnt come back).

Oh and as a test - does [noubb]test[/noubb] work?

What's so different? You still have to click on the title of a thread to read it. The forums are all named the same, and you still click "reply" to reply. Yes, it looks a bit different, but that doesn't change how it works. Basically I can understand why you might think it's ugly, but how is it awkward and annoying?

amb, we have all GL emoticons here. Please read the FAQ for an explanation of the move, and read the appropriate thread in the Site Design for an explanation about the smiley system. The basic rule is "with nose = GL. without nose = phpBB"

Re: No-UBB

Hmm, there seems like a fairly simple work around.
ie. , , , ,etc. can all be produced in posts.

Just open and close any tag, before the close bracket, for my example, I used the bold tag.

eg. To produce , I typed [b]

I did not see a doubleplusGood option, so I voted for "Excellent."

I must say, though, that despite the overall plusquality, I find myself wanting to suggest that the linkText color isn't quite... something enough, almost like it's just not quite on the same wavelength as the rest of our Glorious Forum.

Comrade Casinopete, revolution is a difficult business and ours is only hours old. Surely things can only get better! In any case, I think it would be wise to avoid criticism of The State in a public forum such as this.
