No. It's Jackie Paper, not Draper. Wasn't that number 19?
For number 8 I solved the equations. Those are elements numbers 29 and 50.

Great Job, Taf.

10=Flowers for Algernon.

First thought how to proceed:

The three Cina's suggest linking the answers in groups of 3.

(sudden flash of inspiration on)

I'm guessing we're supposed to translate these into numbers, using the anniversary with which each gift mentioned in the answer is (traditionally) given:

1. It's Only a Paper Moon (Paper = 1)
2. Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory = 14)
3. Red China (China = 20)
4. The Bronze Age (Bronze = 8)
5. Orion's Crystal (Crystal = 15)
6. Ebony & Ivory (Ivory = 14)
7. Something with Flowers or Wood, which when squared will = 25
8. Bronze (Bronze = 8)
9. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (Crystal = 15)
10. Flowers for Algernon (Flowers = 5)
11. Steely Dan (Steel = 11)
12. Pottery Barn (Pottery = 8)
13. Ivory Soap (Ivory = 14)
14. China Grove (China = 20)
15. Silkworm (Silk = 12)
16. Leatherface (Leather = 3), times 7 = 21
17. Ivory dealer (Ivory = 14)
18. Jackie Paper (Paper = 1)
19. China Beach (China = 20), minus 1 = 19
20. Pottery wheel (Pottery = 8)
21. Leather glove (Leather = 3)

Taking the numbers as a straight substitution gives ANTHONYHOEKHNTLUNASHC, which seems so promising with the "Anthony" in the front before trailing off to gibberish.

Hi,

Well, my first post, but I've been checking things out here at GL for a while now...

Here are my additional thoughts on this puzzle...

#4 = Bronze Age
#7 = ????? I'll have to dig deeper!

At first glance these answers seem to correspond to traditional anniversary gifts for certain years... and since none of the numbers go beyond 26 (including the ones with "mutter math" added) I'm hoping the alphabet is my friend :-)

So... (with math included for #10, 16, and 19...)

1 paper 1 A
2 ivory 14 N
3 china 20 T
4 bronze 8 H
5 crystal 15 O
6 ivory 14 N
7 ??? ??? ???
8 bronze 8 H
9 crystal 15 O
10 flowers 16 P
11 steel 11 K
12 pottery 9 I
13 ivory 14 N
14 china 20 T
15 silk 12 L
16 leather 21 U
17 ivory 14 N
18 paper 1 A
19 china 19 S
20 pottery 9 I
21 leather 3 C

Where to go from here? Anagram the letters, I think, but not many vowels here... perhaps a letter substitution first? I too will defer to greater minds.

Yes I saw that too (see my edited list above), but that would still leave
#14 & #19 incorrect... unless the mutter math was meant for #14 INSTEAD OF #19

The GLer in question 7 was quicksilver. Silver is associated with the 25th anniversary, confirming the Y we have.

Anthony Hopkins' lunatic would, of course, be Hannibal Lector.

Yup.. Gotta be it. Was just a bit messed up by 14 and 19. Did I miss something or was there a mistype in the puzzle?
