A do-it-myself lesson will be taught on June 8, 2007.
After that, I'm no longer legally single. My partner Jason and I will be married! _________________ Shun the unbeliever... SHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN-NUH |

If you could postpone for 5 weeks you could get spliced with Jason on Friday, 13 th of July.
You're real name isn't Frederick by any chance, is it?
Could make for an interesting wedding theme.
Anyway, I hope you're both very happy together.
Congratulations! |

I read the first line and thought "Why then? Why aren't you showing us now?" Then I thought, "Maybe he's going to a knot-tying class? That's interesting, but it has to be really unique to get its own thread, and it's scheduled way in advance. I wonder if he'll tell us about it."
Then I read the second sentence. I'm betting that's the point where the lights went on for most of you. Not me. "What legal issues arise with rope? And 'single'? What?"
So: I'm happy for you and confused. Congratulations! I'll have to recommend against using Jack_Ian, Wedding Planner, though. |

Me too.
Wow! What a coincidence.
In fact I've been married on all of the Friday the Thirteenths for over 10 years now.
Got married on a Saturday though.
For some reason - Jason Paul Collum's October Moon springs to mind.
If you don't already know it, Beartalon, best not google it.
You probably have enough jitters already to deal with without me adding to them.
Happily married for over 10 years. Never looked back.
Did have jitters though
Saw the Claddagh rings and celtic knots in the photos on your site.
Brought me back to my single days and one of my favourite chat-up lines.
"Got any Irish in you?"
"No"
"Want some?"
And in case there is any Irish blood involved...
Go gcuire Dia na céadta bliana de rath oraibh. - May God grant you many years of prosperity together.
Sounds something like - Guh gwirre Deeah na kaydta bleeana de rah urriv
"Ní féasta go rósta is ní céasta go pósta" rolls off the tongue a little easier though.
Sounds something like - Knee faysta guh roesta iss knee kaysta go poesta.
There's no feast without a roast and there's no torture without a marriage
All joking aside. The very best of luck to you both. |

Thanks Everybody!
The wedding is a small ceremony - we'll be having a separate ceremony with a full reception later. Some of the people we really want to be there can't make it but we don't want to wait, so we're doing two ceremonies. It may sound odd, but this first is the legal ceremony, and the other will be the typical huge party with everyone who can come.
This wedding will be in a senior's centre (scoping out the future homestead, I guess) in nearby Guelph, Ontario, and will be a fairly casual affair with only our witnesses and the local group of friends in attendance. Having it on a Friday afternoon is difficult for several people, but hey, it's about us.
The second ceremony will be kilts and tartans, self-written vows and self-designed rings, live Celtic music and a black soul singer, and Ring-Pops as wedding favours. There's some heavy Celtic imagery here. We are both of Irish descent - I'm from Newfoundland, one of the most Irish places on Earth outside Ireland, Jason is a Celtic musician who plays bodhran, pennywhistle and flute.
I'm jittery about it, but it's what I expected. _________________ Shun the unbeliever... SHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN-NUH |

When we were joking about keeping wedding expenses down, I told Jason it was the only ring I could afford. I hadn't seen the candy for several years and suddenly found it a few days later. That was when we got the idea.
When is your someday going to be? |

My current excuse is that a wedding requires two people.
I was looking for colors that would match what I currently plan on having as my wedding colors. Then I noticed Strawberry Ice Cream. They had better still make those whenever I go to a knot tying class.
Enough hypothetical wedding planning, and back to the real thing.
Are you picking specific colors for your wedding, or is it going to be whatever colors are included in the Irish stuff and the Ring Pops? What are the kilts going to look like? I hear "kilt" and think red plaid, but they can be other colors, too, right? |

Actually that is hypothetical for now. I need to find my clan or district tartan, but I don't know much about how to do so. _________________ Shun the unbeliever... SHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN-NUH |

| Thank you Quailman! Every local Scottish store I went into did not have Bishop in their lists at all since "Bishop is not a Scottish clan or district name." I've looked at many sites online, but not this one. |

I know now why I coldn't find the Bishop tartan. It was only invented in 2005 and I had given up looking by then. The site Quailman used is Scottish. Ireland also has it's own tartans, by city, region, county or province. My father's family was English. It's my mother's side that was Irish, but since I can't get that information from our geneaology, I may just use the Newfoundland tartan.
The Newfoundland tartan does indeed look nice and may be my choice. My partner's tartan is McAllister (of which there are 6 variations on that Scottish site).
http://www.pch.gc.ca/progs/cpsc-ccsp/sc-cs/o6_e.cfm
"Newfoundland
The Newfoundland tartan was designed by St. John's businessman Sam Wilansky in the early 60's. The tartan has the colours of gold, white, brown and red on a green background. The gold represents the sun's rays; the green represents the pine clad hills; the white represents the cloak of snow; the brown represents the Iron Isle and the red represents the Royal Standard for which our fathers stood."
And here's the tartan itself:

Was my invitation lost in the mail?

Thank you, Hichthiker and RequiemEternam! To answer your comments:
Well entangled already, or we wouldn't be doing this.
It is about time. It's been almost three years.
Not all the good ones are taken. Some of the delightfully evil are still left.
Some invitations did get lost in the mail.
But all is well. 5 days, plus change.
(5 days, then change?) |

Congrats Bearty. On balance, after 25 yrs or so, I've decided I prefer being married to not. Hey, that's a pretty positive statement about the institution, isn't it |

My forever-single and jaded friends would probably suggest this reply begs for the use of "ChienFou", "should be" and "institutionalised" in the same (independent) sentence, but I'm not them.
We're hoping for 25 years at least. In September, my parents will have been married for 55, 40 of which will have included me, so there's a testament to staying power! |
