actually, when I was young, my neighbor was a farmer. when he sold us a dozen ears of corn (for a dollar) he put 14 in the bag.
so there you go.

For people who didn't get Oxford Student's comment, I believe that what you do is define 12 as XII using Roman numerals. Then you take the top half of the XII to get VII, which is 7 using Roman numerals.
