I'm curious about these bicycles....

Did the dead man own any of the bicycles? One of them? Two of them? More? All? Did he own the "identical" ones? Both of them or just one?

Were the bicycles brand new?

Were the bicycles parked in an orderly fashion? Like in a bike rack? Were they lined up? Were they in a jumbled pile? Or were people riding them?

Was there any one or two bicycles that were positioned differently than the others? Was it/were they the "identical" ones?

Were the bikes all full-sized adult bikes in rideable condition, with no motorization or other unusual features? Were the bikes road bikes? Mountain bikes? Does it matter?

Is there any other information about the physical appearance of the bikes that would be useful in solving the puzzle? If so, the identical bikes, the non-identical bikes, or both sets?

I think I have it. My guess in spoiler text:

The bicycles are playing cards. There are 53 because someone cheated and put in an extra card, like another ace. More than likely, he was shot. =)
