I just thought I'd let you know about this.
It's not a recommendation or anything, in fact I think the quality is quite bad and difficult to read.
Basically, it's an attempt to assist in the digitising of old books to be made available on the web. "reCAPTCHA improves the process of digitizing books by sending words that cannot be read by computers to the Web in the form of CAPTCHAs for humans to decipher."

| I don't understand how it helps their goal. They want people to look at the jumbled text and realize it says "stirs", yet how will the program be able to tell the user got the word right unless the program already knows what the word says? And if the program already knows what the word is, how is the person helping? |

It's explained in the linked site. Basically, they ask you for two words, one they know and one they don't. If you got the known one right, then they assume the other one's probably also right. Repeating this with different people should yield a pretty meaningful result. _________________ After years of disappointment with get rich quick schemes, I know I'm gonna get rich with this scheme. | Maybe spammers could use it to pass robot tests by telling people that they're digitizing old documents or doing vision research or something. |
