Format

Runoff - 24 games received 2 nominations. These will be put into 8 groups of 3, with the worst in each group eliminated.

Bracket - The 16 games surviving the runoff stage will be added to the 37 games receiving 3 or more nominations for a 53 game bracket. The bracket will be seeded by number of nominations, with the top 11 games (7 or more nominations) receiving a bye in the first round.

Timing

Each poll will remain open for one week, or slightly longer; I will call the matches as soon as I am able after the week is up.

Week 1 - Runoff Groups 1-8
Week 2 - Main Bracket Round 1, Division 1-3, Runoff Tiebreaks
Week 3 - Main Bracket Round 1, Division 1-5
Week 4 - Main Bracket Round 1, Division 4, 6-8
Week 5 - Main Bracket Round 2, Division 1-4
Week 6 - Main Bracket Round 2, Division 5-8
Week 7 - Main Bracket Round 3, Divisional Finals
Week 8 - Main Bracket Quarterfinals
Week 9 - Main Bracket Semi-Finals
Week 10 - Main Bracket Final, Third Place, and Consolation

Starting these early since I'll be busy tonight, last week's matches aren't closed yet though.

All board games. Not a bad selection at all, but still surprising that there aren't some card games in there.

I may do an all-card-game consolation this time, rather than what I did last tourney; but we'll see...

Go beats chess. End of story. It was not even in the contest. That's not fair. Everyone go play Go a few (dozen, it takes a while to absorb, like chess) times, then we'll do a recount.

Go is so dull. The pieces don't really do anything, they just sort of sit there.

Er... Go *was* in the contest. It made it to the quarterfinals, in fact.

If you see Go pieces as just stones then it's not very interesting, but if you see them as regiments of paratroopers attempting to cut the enemy supply lines and force them to surrender then it's an exciting game.

Games with more than two players add the possibility of negotiations in addition to strategy and tactics. I think that makes them more interesting than the two player games.
