Two men that brought religion to Europe.

Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden zum Gutenberg (c. 1400 – February 3, 1468) was a German goldsmith and printer who is credited with inventing movable type printing in Europe around 1439 and mechanical printing globally.

Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullāh; also spelled Mohammed or Muhammed) (ca. 570 Mecca – June 8, 632 Medina), is the central human figure of the religion of Islam and is regarded by Muslims as the messenger and prophet of God, the last and the greatest in a series of prophets of Islam.

I must admit to being a bit surprised by the spread on this one.

Judging from the nominations in general I'd say that for all his graces Muhammed just isn't western enough to survive this tournament.

Yeah, I forgot to nominate Morihei Ueshiba (sp?). Not like he would have been chosen, with only one nomination.

imo, Gutenburg's invention of the printing press was a matter of time, and i always thought of it as very clever, but not particularly brilliant.

you can certainly argue his impact, which was huge. however, with Muhammed as the competition, i have trouble understanding these results.

even apart from the Chinese claims, there is also Coster:

who most likely invented the printing press before Gutenberg.
