To See
Hear all! Hear all! Know what I know. You see; we see; we all use our eyes. But do you see what's real? Some are told which to see: whether red or blue. For some, sight withers. They're told not to see; they're told by their peers not to use their eyes! But we know one need not see through eyes to have sight. For real sight -- our real prize -- you do not use your eyes, you use your mind.
Do you see?

Invisible tag incoming!
1st line - 3 "see", 2nd line - 2 "see", 3rd line - 1 "see", 4th line - 0 "see"
I don't think that will work. It would be too easy. |

No, that is not it. This is definitely one that, once you get it, you will be quite sure you are right. (Besides, the number of lines that it shows has somewhat to do with how wide your browser window is.)
Here is another bit that would fit the system (only the part in quotes):
"Hear! Hear! You have naught but to peer to see all."
Regards,
Zag

Great praise for you! Sooner than I would have seen.
But you write "utter?" Are you sure?

One last hint: Ransom's note and my previous one (though not this one) both are written using the original rule. However Ransom's use of the word "utter" and my use of the word "than" are both a bit suspect.
If you still don't have it (and still care, which you must or you wouldn't have reached this far), here is an answer, sort of, in invisible ink. (At least I hope so, it's my first try with it.)
Two Sea
Here awl! Here awl! No watt eye no. Ewe sea; wee sea; wee awl ewes are ayes. Butt dew ewe sea watts reel? Sum our tolled witch two sea; weather read ore blew. Four sum, site whithers. Their tolled knot too sea; there tolled buy there piers naught two yews there ayes! Butt wee no won knead naught sea threw ayes two halve cite. Four reel site -- are reel pries -- yew dew knot ewes you're ayes, ewe ewes ewer mined.
Dew yew sea?

Thanks! I am new to the forum and that was my first try at making my own puzzle. I really appreciate the kind words.

this is driving me nuts. Let me know if I have the rule though I am probably wrong as usual:
"Do I fore see (space on purpose) what's real? Or not? I do see! or do I?"

Love is the absolute expression of the human perfection. -Me

You do see!! But you might be one which adds some new piece to our suite. {Ransom} adds "utter, aloud, phrase."
{I especially liked "phrase." I wish I had thought of it. And, yes, everything which is not inside curly braces continues to follow the rule. } |

{Close. You meant the right thing, but used the wrong word. You meant to say: "Every word has a homophone."}

| "Homophone" and "Homonym" are synonyms. |

| According to my dictionary, at least, homonyms are a subset of homophones. Homonyms are two words pronounced AND spelled the same, but with different meaning. Homophones sound the same, but may or may not be spelled differently. |

| So I suspect that the actual rule is "every word has a non-homonymic homophone." |

from Dictionary.com
hom·o·nym (hm-nm, hm-)
n.
One of two or more words that have the same sound and often the same spelling but differ in meaning, such as bank (embankment) and bank (place where money is kept).
So homonyms may be spelled the same, but not necessarily.
Homophones sound the same but are not spelled the same.
Of course, the antonym of homophone is homograph. |

Hmmm, contradictory dictionaries. Imagine that.
However, dictionary.com also states that homophones may be spelled the same as well. If that's the case, it appears Hitchhiker was right all along. I personally feel that's a bit "sloppy" considering the meanings of the actual words (homophone = 'same sound', and homonym = 'same name'). But I never argue with Webster. |
