alphatango I don't trust, partly because of timing. Part of my role were explained before this claim.

But essentially we are stuck with a bunch of vanilla townies. #@$^!

Curious - did you think AZu was the vig?
You seem to be implying that being "Stuck" with a bunch of vanilla townies is a bad thing, but you haven't been voting townies, only power roles. Which do you dislike more?

I'm going to be away (for a funeral) until Tuesday so for now I will vote: ChienFou. He seems to have clammed up again and although everyone seems to have quietened down as well, he's still fishy.
I am also still very suspicious of Skruffs, as although "a certain number of times during the game" makes more sense than "during the day" I think this seems more of a "brushing off" attempt, and I feel a more genuine mistake would have been owned to quicker and with less of the "why me?" feel about it. One of the factors which made me choose to vote ChienFou over Skruffs just now is that MattV made the comment that Skruffs is his top choice (which is OK, he's right up on my suspect list too) but hasn't made any post to restore my confidence, so I'm nervous of just blindly agreeing with him at the moment.
I will be back on Tuesday so I may possibly have time to change my vote before the deadline if it turns out appropriate.

"scum rating" name - role

5 alphatango - historian
-- he did explain the role in a manner that doesn't seem like it is being made up. Works with the timeline but claimed after the timeline role came out.

8 ChienFou - vanilla townie
-- nothing much about his role.
-- minimal participation

2 Ctuchik - time travel repairman
--was scum at the start of the game but now seems more sane than myself.

4 Dented Ford - vanilla townie
-- seems reasonable enough. Active at the very least.

5 groza528 - visitor from the future (role blocker)
-- Some doubt in my mind... but seems reasonable enough

7 isauteikisa - vanilla townie (tourist)
-- not too much post content. mention of tourist fits in with theme.

8 Skruffs - hider, townie
-- feels that "game" and "day" are similar enough to be confused.

0 MatthewV - Tour Guide

Now the roles of Skruffs and alphatango seem very similar. Skruffs stumbled on the claim while AT was able to describe in detail.
ChienFou is rather scummy also. And aside from those wonderful drinks and burgers he hasn't contributed much.

Though it seems everyone was too distracted by their first trip to the future and too interested in the battle to vote, some people did manage to pull themselves away from the action to vote.

End of Day Vote Count:
ChienFou - 3 - (Dented Ford, Ctuchik, MatthewV)

Thus, ChienFou was lynched.

'Tis Night. Choices are due Wednesday, November 5, at 5 pm EDT.

Reality 6, Night 1:

A word of advice: It would be within everyone's best interests to end day 1 as soon as possible.

Everyone emerges from their cabins eager to start their tour -- this did cost an awful lot of money. After some fancy technical mumbo-jumbo occured involving the Time Travel Devices you are all wearing, you look around and discover that you're in mid-14th Century Europe! It's 1349 AD and The Plague is running rampant. That's, erm... nice.

You notice two members of the village you're visiting coming up to you. Wait a minute, that seems to be Leonidas, and the other one looks like Irgy! They get weaker and weaker as they draw closer, finally collapsing at your feet -- dead from Plague. But how?

Fantastic trip you've got going.

18 alive, 10 to lynch

--------------------------------------

Reality 6, Day 1:

thedragon'sprincess has died by Plague! Now 17 alive, 9 to lynch.

End of Day Vote Count:

Undercover Monk - 8 - (thedragon'sprincess, MatthewV, AZu, Undercover Monk, KradDrol, Ctuchik, groza528, bbbbbbbbba)

hasdgfas - 2 - (ChienFou, Chuck)
Leonidas - 2 - (Amb, Dented Ford)

ChienFou - 1 - (Lastword-2)
groza528 - 1 - (hasdgfas)

Undercover Monk has the most votes at deadline and has been lynched.

--------------------------------------

Reality 6, Night 2:

It is now the second day of your tour! It is August 11, 480 BC. On your left you'll notice some Greeks, and on your right quite a bit more Persians. Welcome to Thermopylae! In the ChronoTours gift shop right now is Thermopylaeopoly -- Fun for 3 to 300 players! A perfect souvenir to remember this stop on your tour.

Across the battlefield you notice figures running towards you between the Persian and Greek lines. They almost make it to your location before stray spears hit them. As they lay dying you realize that they were KradDrol and hasdgfas.

13 alive, 7 to lynch

--------------------------------------

Reality 6, Day 2:

End of Day Vote Count:

bbbbbbbbba - 4 - (The Anti-Nerd, Dented Ford, ChienFou, alphatango)

Kraddrol - 3 - (bbbbbbbbba, MatthewV, AZu)

Ctuchik - 1 - (Skruffs)

And with the most votes at deadline, bbbbbbbbba is lynched.

--------------------------------------

Reality 6, Night 3
Ah, tour day 3. Welcome to 1871 Chicago! October is usually cooler than this, but the fire behind you is providing quite a lot of warmth.

12 alive, 7 to lynch

--------------------------------------

Reality 6, Day 3:
End of Day Vote Count:

bbbbbbbbba - 7 - (alphatango, ChienFou, Ctuchik, Dented Ford, MatthewV, groza528, isauteikisa)

Amb - 3 - (Anonymous, Anonymous, Anonymous)

Ctuchik - 1 - (Lastword-2)

And with 7 votes reaching majority, you lynch bbbbbbbbba again. "Make sure he's dead!" cries someone from the crowd. Yes, I can assure you, he's dead.

--------------------------------------

Reality 6, Night 4

Hasdgfas and Lastword-2 were modkilled during the night. Their generic roles:
hasdgfas was a cop.
Lastword-2 was an extra voter.

Looking around at your new destination, you notice wonderful greenery and ferns everywhere. And - oh! - a lizard. A cute little lizard. And a much, much larger, erm... "lizard" behind it. And Chuck running from the li- Chuck getting smashed by the lizard. And there's also a giant flaming rock falling through the sky.

Welcome to the extinction of the dinosaurs! It is 9 alive, 5 to lynch. This day was auto-deadlined.

--------------------------------------

Reality 6, Day 4
End of Day Vote Count:

AZu - 5 - (groza528, Skruffs, MatthewV, Ctuchik, Dented Ford)

With 5 votes, thus reaching majority, AZu is lynched.

--------------------------------------

Reality 6, Night 5

After a good night's rest, you awaken in 4479. It's the Battle of Mars. The Martians wanted to form their own separate govenment, yadda yadda, here we are. While this is a very interesting battle to observe, as it was the first to use laser weapons, be sure to also note the architectural details on the buildings and enviro-spheres.

8 alive, 5 to lynch!

--------------------------------------
Reality 6, Day 5

End of Day Vote Count:

ChienFou - 3 - (Dented Ford, Ctuchik, MatthewV)

Thus, ChienFou was lynched.

--------------------------------------

Reality 6, Night 6:

Amb, Dented Ford, groza, isauteikisa, Ctuchik, Skruffs, and alphatango awaken to a cold, cold winter day. Except... the ChronoTours computer keeps insisting that it's July and says you're in the northern hemisphere. They're quickly distracted from this seeming oddity by finding MatthewV's body outside, frozen. If only he had a warmer coat.

And, with that, the game is over -- the mafia (Amb, Dented Ford, groza, and isauteikisa) have a majority. Congrats mafia on your win!

The role run-down will be a few days.

Nicely played -- DF in particular was verbose but believable, I thought. Felicitous I felt like the town self-destructed a bit too much over b^9a and hasdfgas. Look forward to seeing the roles!

A cop modkill was vital for us.

I felt the game needed more power townies when the mafia can hide behind the fact that roles arent revealed on death. Thats why my game had a coroner as well as a cop.

Oh well, congratulations to the mafia. I had a feeling we were getting hammered and had no chance, at least I was right about something.

I was a role-blocker. Got killed by plague far too early to do anything useful. I assume the plague kills were mafia, except maybe the middle of the day one? Did I do anything in particular that got me targeted or was it just pretty random?

Well, bearing in mind that I was scum, even so I tried to play and post believably as townie. This post http://www.greylabyrinth.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?p=451050#451050 is fairly close to genuine reasonings that I would have used. You did seem to give an impression of surprise that we didn't all have a power role in the early stages.
[edit] actually I just reread that post and I think in part of it I mistakenly pasted the same snippet twice. I can't remember now exactly but I think I meant to have posted the bit in my post #33 that I quoted of yours from post #31 [/edit]

I think Ctuchik must have rezzed him (to test my claim.) We considered retkilling AZu to resurrect Amb, but that would have put us at 4 and 4 and Courk informed us that we needed one more. That would've been a sure lynch for Amb, if we killed someone that was already dead and the only result was bringing Amb to life, so we decided not to risk it, figuring we could maybe get another wrong lynch off of you guys.
I guess I lucked out with my claim then, what with Irgy already being dead. Maybe not solely luck, seeing as I was among the last to claim.
By the way, thanks to Courk for running the game!

Amb, Mafia Godfather.
Quote:
You've managed to hack into the Time Travel Device system, and now you and your gang plan on eliminating everyone else against you. Your other mafia members are Dented Ford, groza528, and Neo.

Every night, you can tell me who you want to kill, which night you want that to occur on, and which mafia member is manipulating the Time Travel Device system to send the target to whatever time period. You may send someone backwards or forwards in time to die. The mafia's kill method depends upon what time period the person dies in. As GF, it is your responsibility to send me the nightly choice. PMs should look like this: "Night 1: [Mafia member] will kill [target] on Night 3."

Mafia members themselves do not travel in time.

You win when a majority of the currently-living members are mafia.

---------------------------------------------

The Vig and the SK had the same kill method -- I thought it'd create amusing confusion.

The days were:

  • Plague (Black Death), 1349 AD - every 14 days a person would die at random. Interestingly, the way the random order came out, the SK, the GF, and 2 regular mafia members were the first 4 listed. Town shoulda stayed there for a while. Felicitous
  • Battle of Thermopylae, 480 BC
  • Chicago Fire, 1871 AD
  • The Meteorite that Killed the Dinosaurs, 65.5 mya - 17 day deadline
  • The Battle of Mars, 4479 AD
  • Ice Age, 20,000 years ago
  • Pompeii's Mount Vesuvius Eruption, 79 AD - 1 week deadline
  • Global Warming Coastal Flooding, 2100 AD

alphatango was more or less right with his predictions on what he'd be safe from. As a good historian, he'd be able to tell that it was the plague era/Battle of Thermopylae/Chicago Fire/Pompeii. However, since the "present" year was 2050, he's have no knowledge of Global warming or the Battle of Mars. The Meteorite and the Ice Age were too vague of time frames for him to be able to save himself.

Mafia kills depended on what day they were actually killing their victim. Any day 1 deaths were plague, since day 1 was plague. The idea was that instead of the victims arriving at, say, June 1, 1349, at 10 am, they'd arrive early, so something like May 1, 1349 at 10 am, and thus be infected waiting for the rest of the tour to arrive.

A lot of people asked me or made some sort of statement along the lines of not being able to time travel. Everyone in the game time traveled because during the days you were all at a different time than you were the day before.

Finally, no one caught on that Dented Ford said he was a townie with a name. The townies didn't have names -- I thought for sure someone would call him out on that one.

Any questions/suggestions for improvement?

I noticed it on day 5 and thought it was possible that every tourist had a name! We were already lynching ChienFou and I was pretty sure that he was scum, so I didn't want to mention it until the next day Dispirited

Dented Ford was so pro-town that it seemed scummy sometimes, but I didn't want to lynch him unless there were only few players left. I didn't want to lynch a player for being too pro-town! Revenge most foul!

I also was too late to ask groza to roleblock me tonight, so I just resurrected Amb and hoped that he would block me. It wouldn't have made a difference though since both of them were scum!

The inactivity/modkill of the cop and the doc lost this game for the town!
The cop reports were crucial information and the doc could have ensured the safety of the cop as well as ressurect Irgy and Leonidas!

You did a very good job moderating the game Courk. Thank you.

Some comments for future TT mafias
I think you overvalued roleblockers and hiders in the balance-- in a normal game a blocker act as a less effective cop in many regards. With TT, the mafia might have just killed on a different night.
The town cannot pick up on inconsistencies of roles when there is nothing solid to go off of. Basically we had a 20 person game with five scum (4 mafia, SK) and no way of connecting a persons actions with real results.

Time travel didn't seem very important either. In some ways I think revealing the full role of a lynched person would be fun-- that way the pro-town players would attempt the modify the timeline to benefit the town (and the other way around too!) if someone important was lynched.

It was good to reread the thread in light of all the different roles. I stand by the handling of the doc/cop situation, and I'm not sure inactivity on their part wouldn't have hurt us sufficiently to lose the game anyway.

I did see DF's "townie with a name" claim go past, but I didn't really have a good reason to disbelieve it, not being a vanilla townie myself. Maybe it was worth pointing out. (Incidentally, one of my more exotic ideas about the game setup was the possibility of a Javert/Valjean pair who were out to discover and lynch each other, or something similar.)

I concur with the comments above about role reveals on death -- I found that very difficult in comparison with the (few) other mafia games I've played. It felt like I couldn't really latch onto any hard facts.

On the other hand, I liked the time travel idea, being the first time I've seen it. The changing realities provided food for thought. I also agree with MatthewV's point about role reveals making this a better mechanic.

As always, thanks for running this, Courk!

I thought the "name" claim was a good idea at the time, but after I'd posted I kind of wished I hadn't. (My only other experience of a Courk game I got the name "Manatee Grass" (and the latin name of it) so I thought that would be a typical Courkism.)
I really did play as much like a townie as possible. If I had actually had a townie role, then a lot of my reasonings and commentary would have been very similar.
Modkill of the cop/doc wasn't the problem with this game, the way the cop and doc played (and lamed out of it) really broke things for the town though. I am utterly confused by what on earth (b^9a in particular) they were thinking.
Given that there was only one cop role, there should really have been more info gathering possibilities for town - maybe not role-reveals on death, as that would have broken the Time Travel mechanic, but certainly with cow being ineffective as a cop the town had nothing else to work with and therefore a big disadvantage.
