Link to Mafia Newbie Guide
Link to Commonly-used abbreviations in Mafia games
Here's the list.- If you are Considering playing Mafia, but Don't know how to play, HERE or HERE (requires Flash) are good links to check out the basic rules.
- Have Fun
- Don't Quote PMs
- Vote in Bold
- PM communication is restricted to certain roles
- The Dead are dead, and are no longer allowed to influence the game
- MODS = GODS
- No Editing or deleting Posts
- If you ask to be replaced, don't reveal your role.
Is this about right, or what?
(Edit: Updated for my gaffe in Redwall Mafia)

In a nutshell, yes, but there also needs to be a rule explaining how lynches are being carried out, and how a lack of a choice will be handled. And I would say that "The Dead are dead, and are no longer allowed to influence the game" isn't entirely accurate -- depending on the mod and the game, if someone dies during the day and has already voted, their vote may still count, meaning that they're still influencing the game.
Only bolded votes being counted is mostly for mod convenience, in the past I've counted unbolded votes if I've seen them.
I find DP's rule set fairly comprehensive, hence why I keep stealing it. |

I said "standard seven"; most of the variations in the other rules you said being needed are, like you pointed out with both the bolding of rules as well as the thing with dead players, because it differs from mod to mod.
I'm trying to flesh out the rules that have changed the least between games; to just get bare bones here.
I think I pulled this list out of the DP ruleset. |

| Why is there animosity towards double-posting? I'm playing my first and only game of werewolf on Braingle (I can't play with those morons) which has clues for the town each round. I post once, sort of shotgunning ideas about the clue, go do some research, figure it out, and post the solution. The mod gets upset because I had two posts in a row? Why is that a big deal? |

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish, here, raekuul. If you're trying to coalesce the rules for Mafia here on GL, as a Mafia newb I can say that I would totally appreciate it. But you have kind of ignored all the rules of the game. Your list is more the meta-rules, intended for people who are already experts in the game. I ended up poking around the mafiascum wiki, starting at this point, to find rules of how actually to play.
So, if you're going to try to put together an official set of GL Mafia rules, at least include that link. |

(Speaking of double posts...)
You really shouldn't take too seriously anything that happens over on Braingle. They have some rather anal-retentive folks over there, though there are plenty of reasonable people, too. But I agree that, in a game where you aren't allowed to edit your posts at all, oftentimes you'll find yourself forced to double-post, so it shouldn't be a big deal.
What we should do is, when you do meet a reasonable person on Braingle (or any similar site), invite him/her over here.
You should read the whole thread that I started about a quiz I tried to create titled "Are these QM's being a little too controlling?" Of course, I chose to dig my heels in, which didn't make the matter any better, but I was annoyed. |

I'm going for more of a "Code of Conduct" than a "This is How to Play."
And that Mafia Scum link is very helpful. |

personally i believe we need something like this, as every time anyone puts up a mafia game, we steal each other's rules. One place, one core set of rules and conduct, and it will save everyone time. any rules that should be on here? please post them and we will update them. _________________ The Man The Myth The Legend
