I posted this in the Happy thread too, but I think it's worthy of its own thread here.
This weekend I was fortunate enough to attend the wedding of our very own LordKinbote in Poughkeepsie, NY (and foolish enough to leave my camera back home.) It was a short and sweet service held at the Chapel of Vassar College. It was a very comfortable and casual setting and indeed there was more laughter than tears, much of it coming from the bride in fact.
The ceremony was followed by a reception in which Kinbote and his merry band of barbershop singers serenaded from the balcony in a reversal of the cliche. The reception also featured the cake imprinted upon which was the solution to LK's self-composed crossword " A Piece of **** " as posted in VSP -- the blank grid was also delivered to the guests in the bags they received upon their hotel check-ins. Personally, I think he should have given the clues in the bags for those who wanted to try the puzzle diagramless, then provide the blank grid on the cake, and finally present the solution on the thank-you notes but I suppose that is a bit over-the-top, not to mention logistically difficult, for the average wedding attendee.
Anyway, I just wanted to post congratulations to the Kinbotes, and demand photos when you return from Bermuda. |

Thank you, groza!
A fun time was had by all. We tried to keep it as laid back as possible, cutting the ceremony to its most abbreviated version, and then cutting out all the cheese (throwing the bouquet, anything to do with a garter, the chicken dance) out of the reception. There were about 90 people in attendance, which felt like the perfect number. A lot of friends from Vassar, which is one reason we chose the location. In fact, my wife and I met almost 7 years ago in the practice space for the college choir in the basement of the chapel, exactly one floor below where we eventually tied the knot.
The crossword puzzle seemed to go over big, as did the band and the singing. There were enough unique, memorable moments that will stay with us till the end, and that we hope our guests will remember too.
Now...off to my cruise ship! |

First of all, congrats!
Second, aren't you on a cruise ship? I know they have fancy internet suites on board nowadays, but can't you think of anything better to do?
On a cruise. On honeymoon and all? |

Too tired to read the thread, but I suspect that a 'Congratulations' is in place. _________________ I tried apt-get install lifebut it only returned E: Couldn't find package life |

I don't know to what you're referring!
To be fair, I was on the internet for half an hour on my cruise. Cruise ship internet prices are astounding (.75 per minute for dialup speeds, including the time it takes you to logon) so I didn't use it until I got to Bermuda where it was much more reasonable ($5 for 33 minutes).
I imagine she objects to the royalty-sounding aspect of Lady Kinbote...or maybe just aliases in general. She's never had an internet persona other than some form of her own name, afaik.
Here was my groom's cake, by the way:
For those of you who did not do my groom's cake puzzle in the Visitor Submitted Puzzles forum, I decided I wanted on a crossword-themed cake that would have a cake-themed crossword. The central answer is CAKES, and the theme answers all have a word that is a type of cake: SPONGEBOB, BIRTHDAYSUIT, CHEESEFONDUE, and CARROTTOP.
I also managed to squeeze some bride/groom specific answers in there: IDO is in there, as is where we live, OMAHA. |
