I meant Jack. When I say George, I mean Jack. And when I say Jack, I mean Pablo.

So, was I the only to notice Scurra name a second character when he named Nancy?

Probably thought I wouldn't take it, since I just about announced I was giving up. I later considered that I should at least throw out a name and see if I got lucky.

Well I figured that if I kept doing it, then the round might look like slightly less of a walk-over Extreme Delectation

(Then again, I won my semi-final largely because my opponent hadn't read any Terry Pratchett, so winning the final because my opponent hasn't read any Dickens seems a bit lucky.)

Congratulations Scurra! Winner of the List.

It's been a really great game, so congrats to all for taking part too. Many special thanks to Courk who was incredibly useful to have along side.

The remaining category was Wild Card (or was there another as well) which was GL Mafia Games where the mafia won

Laughing That's a brilliant category, even though I would definitely have scored zero on it. I took a decision a while ago that I simply couldn't afford the time to play any of the Mafia games, so I no longer even read the threads in case I am tempted...

Thanks for running the game and big thanks to all the players. My favourite round was definitely that one about Flags with Yellow on them. I'm glad I lost it, even though I fluked some great answers.

I would have scored one, though I don't know if it would be the official title: "Mafia!" i.e. the first one
Congratulations Scurra! Just remember he beat me first; you can all be jealous now.
Thanks for running this Amb and Courk!

Actually, im saddened not to have run the GL Mafia one. I was really looking forward to that one.

I had a few others such as Carcinogens in smoke.

It was very hard finding lists that werent too easy. I did think the Speilberg list was easier than it turned out. I'd have named 2 Oliver Twist characters and maybe 4 if I had time to think about it. THe net safe colors was the biggest disappointment. There were a LOT of fun ones I could have named such as Mocassin, Peru and PapayaWhip.

I'd have picked stuff at the beginning of the periodic table, as I thought everything was synthesised out of the fusion of elements within stars, and as stars die and release material "to the universe" it gets denser, but mainly after reuse and synthesis in newly born stars. So I'd have crashed out when hydrogen and helium were used first, leaving me to say Lithium as next guess.

The thing is, though, that atom+proton fusion doesn't really work. A proton that is too slow won't get close enough to the atom to fuse (since they both have positive electric charges), whereas a fast proton hitting an atom is like shooting a bullet at a bag of marbles.

Most of the elements beyond Helium come from alpha-chain fusion, where Helium nuclei (2 protons and 2 neutrons, also known as an alpha particle) stick together. They're particularly well-bound, so it's harder to break and atoms they make up apart. Thus, the chain of elements with 2n protons and 2n neutrons is common: Carbon-12, Oxygen-16, Neon-20, Magnesium-22, and so forth. As they get near Nickel-56 things get interesting in two ways: First, the equal numbers of protons and neutrons isn't really the most stable way to arrange things (a few extra neutrons tend to make things more stable in the heavy nuclei), so some of these heavy nuclei radioactively decay. This is how we get most of the other elements. Second, there's no energy to be gained by fusing things heavier than about Iron or Nickel; instead, by making anything heavier, you are storing energy in the nucleus. We get some of that energy out of super heavy Uranium through nuclear fission in power plants and Hiroshima-style nuclear bombs.

Now that actually makes sense, and is fascinating to boot.
Thanks Lepton!
