I have a mafia game set up which I am calling "Chocolate!" because there are no vanilla characters. Everyone has a role, including some sort of special ability, and none of them are roles you've ever seen before. (At least, I don't think so.)
I've worked it out and I believe that it will be balanced with only 7 players. I think that the other open games are suffering from the general lack of players that we have here, so I'm hoping that a game which is balanced at 7 players will be able to get going.

MNOWAX lynched. He turned out to be a "tough guy" a townie who could survive one night kill.
Day 1, nighttime
raekuul was killed at night. He turned out to be a mafia type known as a "Corrupt Cop." His ability was to redirect whom the cop investigated.
Day 2. daytime

It wasn't meant as a criticism. It's just that you normally need 9 players to have a balanced game, and we struggle to get 7. |

It's hard to balance mafia games. With 7 players it should be a little easier though because you can probably do exaustive tests (without needing a computer  ).
Besides balance is overrated  .

Thanks for the compliment, UM. By "balanced" I mean that I tried it on paper 4 times, randomizing each person's choices, and the mafia won twice. Of course, that doesn't take personalities into account, or people gleaning information from the content of posts.

I'm honored! But now I'm concerned. Let me qualify that all of the roles are ones that I made up, though some are variations of existing roles. I might not be the first one to have made these up, though.
I'll be sending out roles shortly. They will be determined randomly (in case anyone thought I was nutty enough to do anything else). |

You are a member of the town, and win if the town wins. You have a one-time ability to bring someone back from the dead, including yourself. That is, you can either resurrect yourself or someone else, not both.
You can bring yourself back from the dead ONLY if you were lynched, not if you were night-killed. However, you are immune to night-kills by vigilantes (you talk them out of it), so you only have to worry about non-town night-killers (mafia and serial killer). For resurrecting someone else, the opposite is true, you can only bring someone else back from the dead if he was night-killed, and not if he were lynched. That you can do any time in any day -- it doesn't have to be someone who was killed the previous night. You do it by declaring in the forum that you are resurrecting so-and-so, and you must refer to that person as "Lazarus" from then on. You can say that you are renaming him "Lazarus" if you like, or just be coy about it. But once you say his original name one time in the declaration of whom you are resurrecting, you can never use it again. (I suggest that you build up to it, by announcing that you are going to perform a miracle, and that everyone should gather to watch, and then actually doing it some hours later, but that's up to you.)
You can not explain that it is a one-time ability, even if someone asks. If they ask you to resurrect someone else, you must not respond to the request at all, not even to say that you choose not to, or anything of the sort. (Deities don't answer to others.) Don't be clever about finding a way to give them this info without actually saying it -- if they guess and you do anything to confirm it, that will be considered a violation. If you violate this rule or the naming rule, you will instantly experience "Ascension." (i.e. you'll be recalled to heaven.)
Feel free to say stuff like, "Whosoever believeth in me will experience everlasting life in heaven." You also are encouraged to refer to other miracles you have done, such as walking on water or turning water to wine, as if they happened before the game started. |
