Edit: Sorry. I didn't realize this would be on a new page. Please see the previous note for a description of all the roles before reading this.

My paper games went as follows. I had decided up front to do 4 games, one in which a mafia was lynched on the first day, one with no lynch, and two where townies were lynched. Then to randomize from there.

A. Mafia lynched first day. Town won without a lot of trouble. The remaining mafia was killed by the investigative vigilante the second night, after (I forget who) was lynched.

B. Townie lynched first day (I forget who). Investigative vigilante picked badly and it was an easy victory for the mafia.

C. Investigative vigilante lynched.
1. No night kill, cop investigates himself.
2. No lynch (I gave it a 20% chance.), no night kill, cop investigates ballot stuffer.
3. Mannequin maker lynched, cop night killed. Note that, in spite of it being 2-to-2, the game is not over.
4. Corrupt cop lynched, attempted night-kill on tough guy.
5. In spite of that, tough guy lynched, ballot stuffer night-killed. Mafia win.

D. No lynch the first day.
Unfortunately, I forget the details of how it played out, but I know it came down to the ballot stuffer and the corrupt cop at the end, so the town won. (I believe the mannequin maker was lynched on the second day, which is what makes the even-odd counts work out differently from the previous game. But details are lost. Sorry.)

If UM were lynched, I'd get an investigation. I trusted lexprod's claim, so I would have checked DP again or milkshake (probably DP, thinking I'd get full role information again). If I got a result on DP or milkshake, I would have definitely voted milkshake day 2.

And while I initially thought my result was bad luck, after what happened, I think it was the best use of a useless result I've seen.

I was hoping to go into day 2 with the situation of me and two potential cops alive. By my investigation result, I'd try to push the one I thought was scum to claim first, hoping to force him to claim ADHD cop and that the other potential was scum. Then everybody else screwed it up by making not-cop claims.

So, DP, you joined because I claimed they would all be roles you hadn't seen before. Then I qualified it to say that they were roles I had made up myself, but possibly I wasn't original. So, how original was I? How many of those had you seen before?

Awesome go town. Everyone (with the obvious exception of raekuul) played a great game. I really think milkshake did a decent job. His only two mistakes being claiming night action after a brilliant fake claim and jumping so forcefully at me right out of the gate on day 2. But all in all a good solid first mod from Zag. The only thing I would have changed was the manequinn maker role. As I stated in game I thought that having that ability as a two shot ability was unbalanced. with the tough guy in the game you could potentially have 3 nights with no kill for the mafia. Thats a lot of chances for the town to lynch mafia before the mafia begin killing. Still a great job and will look forward to your next game. I am thinking of running one within the next month or so.

This game is so much better on this website than on mafiascum.

I almost felt like I was letting Zag down by getting lynched. Cannibal I tried, I really did! xD I'm still not as experienced as you folk yet, though. Could have done better.

GG town. I think that we should not forget the power of the process of elimination... despite my best efforts to make the opposite seem true, I was really the only role that could have been mafia unless RM was mafia-seeming-town or UM was a mafia-bonus-kill. I'm not sure how effectively I could have faught that fact. :O

Was fun, all. Revenge most foul! Good game.

Oh go ahead and do yours first. Mine is still in the "ohh this is a cool idea phase" I may start sign-ups early just to gauge the interest and play with the set-up but that is still a week away at the earliest. Also I am hoping to be picked for the new round of Spies so if that gets going I won't be able to mod.

Fun game, thanks Zag. Go town!

I think the roles were pretty original, but the double voter was one of the first introduced in the game (about 2001 by firemeboy, "mayor" role). I think the clinching milkshake mistake was claiming night time protection ability in addition to the lynch stopping, It was too much power on the town's side.

Bleh, not my smartest move. Not by a long shot.

It might be in the running for my dumbest move, though.

Although I did achieve what I wanted to achieve with the fake plural. Sorta.

You got me at least XD. I'm a horrible paranoid, thanks to playing in Spies, when I got royally screwed by telling the wrong person the wrong thing.

This was a lot of fun to play Zag! Glad to finally play as town on this forum, with my previous games being mafia or third party. Sorry to be so hard on you UM, but with you and milk at each other's throats a few posts into the day I couldn't not lynch ONE of you!

Great game all! Bond mafia may be slightly delayed, depending on how organized I get and if Monk wants to get his rolling first.

Thanks for the kind words! (Edit: thanks, lexprod, as well!)

A few comments in my defense:

True, the two roles together were potentially fatal to the mafia if they got unlucky, but that's true (that a little unluckiness will ruin mafia) in any mafia game. My thinking was that a normal balanced game is 9 town vs. 2 mafia, so that essentially brought it to balanced. As we saw, and as happened in one of my paper games, if one of those players gets lynched early, their ability to prevent a night-kill also goes away.

Also, the silent voter is incredibly powerful, allowing a mafia member to join bandwagons and to bring a hammer without causing suspicion on himself, so I thought that it offset the inability to night-kill for two or even three nights. With 8 votes in play (counting DP's double vote) the town needs 5 of 6 -- near unanimity -- to lynch a mafia member, since the mafia won't be voting for that lynch. But if the non-silent voter can slip unnoticed on to a bandwagon, and the silent voter can jump on, then they only need two others to cause a lynch as long as one of them is the ballot stuffer, or if he simply hasn't voted. (If he doesn't vote, or chooses to use only one of his votes, then we are back to 4 being a majority of 7 votes. Again, I feel badly that DP never had a point where there was an even number of players, which makes his double vote much more powerful.)

The other mafia role was, I thought, also pretty powerful but in a much more subtle way. I would have loved to assign it to DP or someone else with a lot of experience. Not only does it give them the key info that there is a form of cop in the town, but they also should they be able to figure out who it is on the second day. (... by whom he is subtly supporting. Remember that the mafia knows whom he got info about, but he doesn't know they know it.) Also, they also could play with his head enough to make him think that he isn't getting true info. Consider that, if raekuul hadn't shot himself in the foot, only the mafia and the cop himself would have known that there is a form of cop amongst you, and the cop would be pretty baffled as to why he got information about the wrong person.

My biggest regret w.r.t. running the game is that I put too much pressure on you to vote on the first day, by making the "force them to do something" clock too short. I had planned to stop it as long as some conversation got going, as I did on the second day, but the lynch happened before I had a chance.

I hope I didn't come across as being too critical, milkshake. You were in a tough position from raekuul's first or second post.

The only reason I was disappointed at all was that I was very impressed with the brilliance of your initial claim, which made me think that you had a chance, after all, when I was thinking that you had no hope. So the point is that you recovered from having no hope with a great move; it's just that it wasn't quite enough.

You forgot: if the cop got redirected onto himself night 1, he'd learn exactly why he was redirected.

Quote:
Well, you were on your way to investigating Dragon Phoenix... You had found some old personnel records where you think there will be information on him, and what did you come across? One labeled "ralphmerridew"! Oh, you thought, what did they have to say about me?

You spent the night perusing this file, and the long and short of it was that it says you are, in fact, a member of the town; you are a cop, but you have a severe case of ADD. The salient quote is "We think there is a mole who is laying investigatory traps for him, distracting him from investigating the person he intends to."
