The popularity of catgirls says something pretty fascinating about human sexual psychology, in my opinion.

Well, I have to admit to being one of those votes. In fact, I had never heard of any of the four, but images of Julie Newmar and Michelle Pfeiffer were enough get me to cast a vote. Mrrrooowr!

Cats are girls, dogs are boys. Cats plus girls = double girls. Makes about as much sense as whatever real reason women wearing cat (or bunny) ears are seen as hotter.

First, the Animorphs universe was never exceptionally popular. Second, decimeter-scale slug-like beings that occupy a person's brain -- but that cause little physical damage -- are hard to accept given modern conceptions of anatomy. Third:
axiom 1: cat + girl = catgirl
axiom 2: sexiness(cat) + sexiness(girl) = sexiness(catgirl)
then: sexiness(catgirl) = sexiness(cat + girl)
corollary 1: in the regime where cat, girl, and catgirl are relevant, "sexiness()" is a linear function. Considering the huge number of variables that typically compose "sexiness()" -- for example: boobsize, drunkenness(me), intelligence -- it is really quite astonishing that linearity is possible.
corollary 2: given corollary 1, we can thus conclude that the mathematical properties of "catgirl" are extremely attractive.
