you know, tolkien's fantasy is good stuff, but I don't think i'd choose ents to be the race that's most interestng. I wouldn't even put it in the top 10. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

I'd put vulcans as more interesting than ents any day. Psychologically they're fascinating. Purely subsumed emotions behind a shell of logic that, if cracked, leads to emotion that overwhelms the individual.
Ents are pretty much just walking trees.
Vlucans aren't terribly interesting compared to other species, but they're certainly more interesting than ents. _________________ Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like? |

I agree with your first paragraph, which is why I voted for vulcans in spite of being a huge Tolkien fan. I disagree with the second and third, though. Tolkien didn't just make walking trees -- he explored the whole philosophy and psychology of creatures that live for tens of thousands of years, are the oldest mortal species (and older than elves, who are essentially immortal). He also based much of their personality and their manner of speech on his good friend C.S. Lewis. Finally, their quest for the entwives is also interesting (and probably also based on C.S. Lewis).
Vulcans, however, have changed modern culture. I'm sure that there are places in Mongolia where people would recognize Mr. Spock. (Anyone want to confirm or deny this -- anyone who happens to live there now?) |

Star Trek is not well know since it had pretty much died out before pop culture started to leak through the Iron Curtain, and into China, in the 80s. Although there are people in Mongolia who would recognize Leonard Nimoy in his pointy ears, such people almost certainly lived Stateside for a while. Sorry. |
